This is absolutely my favorite beef in all of Hip Hop history. A Battle between 2 rappers that invented new Hip Hop styles. It all started when Kool Moe Dee released the single How Ya Like Me Now (lyrics) in his 1987 album with the same title dissing LL Cool J for some Behind-The-Scenes offenses while claiming he stole his rapping style, which, interestingly, was the same excuse MC Shan used for dissing LL on his track Beat Biter.
Motown Records, the Detroit label founded in 1959, was essential in shaping the sound of the vinyl era. As the self-proclaimed “sound of young America,” the label pierced the pop charts with soulful ballads and socially-charged anthems from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Marvin Gaye.
Some of you may have already seen some press about this, but I’m here with an official community announcement! Lyrics to Life is a Los Angeles-based pop-up art exhibit inspired by song lyrics. Genius has collaborated with artists to transform iconic lyrics into physical art that music fans can see, touch, and experience.
