Seeing More Clearly
“Is your lifestyle worth more than my life?” This was the question I seemed to hear from a frog as I passed through the marsh walking from my campsite to the beautiful shoreline at South Carolina’s Huntington Beach State Park. Sitting with it now, I can imagine expanding the question to have come from many voices throughout many bioregions, including human voices around the world.
Community Radio and Social Power
Ed. note: This piece was originally published in Spanish in La Jornada, Translated into English by Jane K. Brundage. If we are facing a crisis of civilization and therefore need a civilizational transformation, a total paradigm shift, then everything that decentralizes, localizes, makes society horizontal and empowers must be disseminated and celebrated.
Are Bonefish a "gateway" drug?
Just wrapped up my sixth bonefish trip. And I enjoy bone fishing, just challenging enough to be interesting but easy enough that one catches fish. What I like about bone fishing is that the fish are plentiful enough that one gets so many chances a day. And all those chances will show a fisherman his/her strengths and weaknesses. Inside Monument Valley: How 'Impossible' Sketches Became An Amazing Game
Monument Valley is one of the most original iOS games ever. A triumph of isometric design, it’s a trippy puzzle game in which you guide a white-clad princess through a series of twisting, turning structures, inspired by the mind-bending art of M.C. Escher. “One of the first things we did when designing Monument Valley were to try and come up with images that seemed impossible,” says lead designer Ken Wong.
What can the rise of Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle teach us about in-game event design?
It turns heads when any game unseats the usual suspects Clash Royale and Mobile Strike to grab the number one top grossing spot on the US App Store. All the more so when that game is nearly two years old and has only a modest Western user base, as was the case with Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle when it topped the charts for the first time on April 14th and 15th 2017.
