What was your first job as a journalist?
My first job as a journalist was in high school, writing for The Sandian, doing mostly opinion pieces.
How is social media changing news?
People have better access to news constantly, but it has eroded trust w/ the public because not all sites follow the same standards.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Stephen Colbert or Jon Stewart. While both real and journalists, they were satirical characters that they played to get the point across.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Various sites for rights free images, Wordpress, File Maker Pro
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Never think a story is too crazy or strange to pitch. If you find the topic interesting, others will too.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
Reviewing the steak and lobster dinner at a strip club. What part of that did I not want to do?
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Lately, it's been gardening. Otherwise, up in the mountains with the dogs, doing some exploration.
