Guess who’s back
Dan Shultz · Follow 1 min read · -- My goal of doing one post a week fell off very quickly. I was reading through all my old posts and it got me motivated again. I can assure you that I was busy. Saving money, buying a house, paying off debts, saving again for a wedding, having a lay-off scare (no worries, I’m safe.), and yes, playing games. It’s been a wild and busy couple of months and things haven’t slowed down much. I’ve had many moments staring at a blank screen, wondering what to do with it.
Tackling the cursed gaming backlog…
It can be seen as a herculean task, but it is far more simple than you may think. I’m not here with the answers, but I hope to share and possibly help you work towards completing your infamous list. I’ve been working towards completing the trophy list for Cyberpunk 2077, but in between some moments, I have the urge to play other games. With my platinum trophy experiment, I figured I would start by going A-Z.
I’m writing this with writer’s block
I’m late posting this, but I’m also attempting to write this staring at a brick wall, trying to figure out what to say. This is probably only going to be one paragraph but when do we decide when to write. Do you still write even if the work is shit? My brain thinks there’s no point to write if you don’t have the best thing, but I also know myself to just ramble and write random shit so who the hell knows. Is it better to write like shit, or to not write at all.
Breaking News: Burnout sucks
Burnout is a bitch, and not an ex-partner type of a bitch, the sort of “You really have to do this now huh?” type of bitch. It’s such a drag when it finally hits me and I’m awful about giving myself enough time to just relax and give my brain rest. It’s been like that all my life, always wanting to do something, but too burnt out to do anything about it. Since COVID it’s mainly been gaming that I’ve been experiencing burnout with, hell, I didn’t realize what burnout was until a year or so ago.
I like multiplayer games again
Call of Duty, Battlefield, Halo. These were multiplayer games that I played A LOT of. Probably 2,000 hours from just Battlefield alone, and another 2,000 from the Black Ops iterations from the Call of Duty franchise (excluding Black Ops 4, that’s a title I didn’t play.) But years have gone by and these games haven’t been the same as before. Whether it’s me changing or the games, they haven’t been that fun.
I’ve forgot the point to Minecraft
I have logged 1,700 total hours of Minecraft on both PlayStation 4 and 5. That is about 71 days total in a Minecraft world, server, or realm made with my friends. That’s a lot of time, but I spent most of that time, making worlds, playing for a couple hours, leaving the world I just made because I hate that I didn’t get a perfect spawn, perfect world seed, or died my first night because I was too focused on finding the perfect spot.
My Favorite Game(s) of 2023
It was a game that I saw on Switch for $4 and said screw it. Next thing I know, it becomes the reason I would grab my switch before leaving for my girlfriend’s place. The reason why I still haven’t beaten Breath of the Wild (I’ll get you one day, Ganon you bitch.) It was just an addictive mess for me that I have had so much with this year. I’m normally not into roguelites but this game along with Hades has turned me on to them.
Breaking News: Gamer needs to rant.
Recently I purchased and completed the campaign to the long awaited title Dead Island 2. A game that has been in development hell for about a decade I believe, it came out and it left me surprised. I expected the game to be a mess after going through FOUR different development studios. Dambuster Studios being the team to finish the title, gave me a fun experience that I will enjoy going back to.
What Makes a Well-Designed Windows 8 WinRT App?
Windows 8 Apps with HTML5 and JavaScript By Dan Shultz, Joel Cochran, and James Bender, authors of Windows 8 Apps with HTML5 and JavaScript There’s not a blueprint or "right way" to create a Windows 8 app or a checklist of features to implement that will officially qualify your application as a Windows 8 app. Windows 8 is about making an experience feel comfortable and familiar, and you, the creator, discovering what it takes to deliver it.
