Paris E-Prix: Frijns wins shunt-packed race despite damage
Oliver Rowland led Nissan teammate Sebastien Buemi after the safety car start until he locked up and crashed into the barrier at Turn 10. Buemi inherited the lead until his car slowed with a puncture, to complete Nissan’s misery, allowing Frijns to lead from Andre Lotterer and Daniel Abt as a rain shower livened up the race. Frijns was battling against broken front bodywork, that he broke against the rear of Buemi’s car earlier.
Sanya E-Prix: Rowland beats Vergne for maiden pole
Rowland and DS Techeetah’s Vergne both made it through to the superpole session from the third group qualifying selection, along with practice pacesetter Sebastien Buemi (Nissan) and Alexander Sims (BMW). On his superpole lap, Rowland made the difference to Vergne in the second sector, before wrestling his car through the fast Turn 10 right-hander, nearly clipping the wall on the exit.
Mexico City E-Prix: Da Costa leads Massa in practice
Da Costa had initially taken the benchmark time with a lap of 59.461s just over 10 minutes into the second session before Dragon's Jose Maria Lopez moved ahead. The BMW driver then responded with what stood as the best time across both practice sessions, completing a lap in 58.963s. Venturi's Felipe Massa, who has endured a difficult start to life in FE, just missed out on the top spot late in the session. The former Formula 1 driver's lap of 59.138s left him 0.175s adrift of Da Costa.
Berlin ePrix: Abt heads Audi 1-2, Vergne extends lead
Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne extended his championship lead with third place, while his closest title rival Sam Bird (Virgin Racing) finished seventh. At the start, Abt comfortably led away from pole as his fellow front row-starter Oliver Turvey had to defend hard from Vergne on the run to the near-circular Turns 1-2 complex. Jerome D’Ambrosio made a late move to the outside to jump ahead of Vergne from fourth on the grid and ran third in the opening laps before being shuffled down the order.
New York ePrix: Lynn takes sensational pole on debut
The DS Virgin Racing driver, standing in for Jose Maria Lopez, beat Daniel Abt to triumph in the pole position shootout by two tenths of a second around the Brooklyn circuit. Lynn was quickest in a damp FP1 on his FE debut, and carried that pace into qualifying by making it into the superpole at the first attempt. Abt nailed a front row start by edging Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne by just 0.003s, with Lynn’s teammate Sam Bird a further 0.020s back.
Hong Kong ePrix: Abt triumphs after late Mortara spin
Mortara was easing to a commanding win when he lost the rear at Turn 2 on lap 43 of 45 and dropped to third, gifting Abt the win and promoting Felix Rosenqvist to second. The race started under the safety car after a lights failure, and Mortara inherited the lead almost immediately when poleman Rosenqvist locked the rears and spun at the Turn 1 hairpin. He dropped to 11th and as he started a gradual fightback, Mortara gradually edged away from Abt and established a decent lead in his Venturi.
Mexico City ePrix: Abt claims pole position, Buemi ninth
The ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport driver set a lap of 1m02.711s to take pole by 0.156s from Oliver Turvey’s NextEV entry. Abt blitzed the first and third sectors of the 2.093km track to deny the British driver of a pole position on his 30th birthday. Instead, the Turvey repeated his Hong Kong ePrix front row position, and equalled his best-ever Formula E qualifying performance of second.
