The New Global Map: Canadian Strategy for a Multipolar World
The Trump administration’s tariffs war on the world has thrown North American trade into crisis, signalling that the era of Western economic primacy is winding down. In its place, a new economic map is forming, defined less by transatlantic commerce than by the rapid expansion of South–South trade. Indeed, Asian industrialization — coupled with the relative slowing of Western economies — is accelerating the transition toward a multipolar system.

Beyond the “Iran Shock”: The Case for Energy Autonomy
Analysts predict enormous economic headwinds as the global energy market continues to weaken. Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz has exposed the strategic limits of American power and the unique vulnerability of the global economy. According to The Economist, we are on the verge of a global economic disaster. Indeed, Iran’s tight grip over the Strait of Hormuz has positioned it as a global energy gatekeeper capable of metering one-fifth of the world’s energy market.
How China Became the World’s First “Electrostate” — and What Canada Can Learn from the Far East
This article was first published by the Toronto Star. The link between energy and artificial intelligence is fundamental to understanding the future economic world order. AI competitiveness equals power competitiveness. And semiconductor fabrication consumes vast quantities of energy. While Western democracies debate subsidies for clean energy and AI separately, China has linked these domains in its national planning.

Canada’s Grand Strategy in a Multipolar World
This article was first published by The Hill Times. For more than four decades, Canadian prosperity has rested on access to consumer markets in the United States. If it was made in Canada, it was probably headed south of the border. Canadian exports to the U.S. currently make up three quarters of our total exports, providing a basis for this country’s prosperity. However, as Prime Minister Mark Carney has repeatedly made clear, this era has come to an end.
Canada's grand strategy in a multipolar world
Canada’s grand strategy in a multipolar world The hard reality is that United States is no longer the centrepiece of global trade, and its internal volatility has exposed Canada to a precarious dance of 'trade talks' with no obvious solution. Rather than remaining a subordinate partner within a declining American empire, Canada, under Prime Minister Mark Carney, is now beginning to pursue its own grand strategy, writes Daniel Araya. The Learning Society: How AI Is Redefining Work, Culture and Human Purpose
Artificial intelligence (AI) represents a permanent rupture in the nature of work. Machine learning is in the early stages of transforming industries as far afield as law, medicine, finance, engineering and education. In fact, AI is already deeply embedded in the automation of agriculture and manufacturing, quietly remapping the foundations of production itself.
Why Asia Must Become the Next Frontier for the Canadian Economy
This article was first published by the Financial Post. Confronted by a perilous convergence of trade shock, under-investment, and population churn, the Canadian economy is now facing enormous headwinds. In fact, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation (OECD) forecasts a very gloomy future for Canada with little or no economic growth on the horizon. Navigating this new reality will require careful planning.

Transforming the United Nations for a Multipolar World
, the United Nations was envisioned as a safeguard against global conflict. Yet, its repeated failure to act decisively in the face of human atrocities — including its inaction in Rwanda (1994), Srebrenica (1995), Darfur (2003), Myanmar (2016) and, most recently, Ukraine and Gaza — reveals a troubling pattern of institutional paralysis. These failures are not isolated incidents but features of a deeper structural malaise.
Rebuilding the International Order through US-China Rapprochement
The old world order is coming to an end. Notwithstanding the return of US President Donald Trump and his commitment to global trade wars, the international order led by the United States is unwinding. China is now returning to its historical position at the centre of the global economy even as regional powers such as India, Russia, Türkiye and Iran have unmoored the geopolitical singularity of the United States. As realist scholar John J.
The Big Winner in Trump 2.0 Will Be Silicon Valley
The phrase, “Cometh the hour, cometh the man,” is often attributed to Sir Walter Scott’s novel Guy Mannering. To many of his followers, Donald Trump represents a symbol of hope for a nation in crisis. An unlikely political leader, President-elect Trump and his motley crew of tech-savvy billionaires now find themselves responsible for administering a rapidly disintegrating US-led order. Trump’s first term was marked by escalating trade wars, bombastic rhetoric and civil unrest.
United States-China Multilateralism in the Age of Military AI

Taken together, a rising tide of high-tech weapons development and a return to great power rivalry are setting the conditions for a tectonic shift in the global security landscape. The paper highlights the strategic challenges posed by these trends and underscores the critical need for multilateral cooperation in managing a new multipolar world order.
It’s Time to Invest in Canadian Robotics
Shrinking demographics and weak productivity growth have combined to paint a dismal picture of Canada’s economic future. As the Bank of Canada’s Senior Deputy Governor Carolyn Rogers explains, Canada’s central problem is a lack of long-term investment. In fact, the nation’s productivity woes are largely about weaknesses in strategic planning.
We Need a Global AI Strategy: What Role for Canada?
Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force with the potential to reshape whole societies. As its applications become increasingly integrated into our daily lives, it’s imperative that policy makers around the world cooperate to establish shared regulatory and legislative governance. In fact, what we need today is a universal AI strategy.
China’s Robots Are Coming of Age
The robots are coming — whether we’re ready or not. Recent breakthroughs in artificial intelligence (AI) are bleeding into dramatic new achievements in “humanoid robotics.” For many researchers, the goal is to leverage brain-inspired neural networks to develop machines that mirror human anatomy and even human performance. Not surprisingly, much of the research in autonomous and multimodal robots is being designed to replace human labour. The robotics industry is reaching a tipping point.
Large-eddy simulations of turbulent wake flows behind helical- and straight-bladed vertical axis wind turbines rotating at low tip speed ratios
Turbulent wake flows behind helical- and straight-bladed vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) rotating at low tip speed ratios (TSRs) are studied numerically. The turbulent flows are simulated using the large-eddy simulation (LES) model, and the rotating turbine blades are modeled using the actuator line method. The helical VAWT has identical key parameters as the straight VAWT except for the 135∘ helical twist of the blades over the 0.3m vertical span.
The Nuclear Age Has Only Just Begun

With Trump Favoured to Reclaim Power, America Faces a Turning Point
Fewer than nine months now separate the world from a possible second Trump presidency. Despite facing multiple criminal cases and widespread media condemnation, Donald Trump is favoured to return to the White House in 2025. To say the former president is a divisive figure would be an understatement. For his critics, Trump’s return to power would mark the end of democracy and the rise of a new kind of fascism.

Will China Dominate the Global Semiconductor Market?
As tech analyst Dylan Patel concludes, it is abundantly clear that . Huawei’s recent breakthrough in chip production for the Mate 60 Pro smartphone represents a watershed moment in the tech war between the United States and China. Rather than slowing the latter’s tech industry, US-led export controls appear to have catalyzed China’s domestic capacity. In fact, China now appears to be within striking distance of advanced US technologies.
Enter the Era of Hypersonic Warfare
Combining the speed of ballistic weapons with the manoeuvrability of cruise missiles, hypersonic glide vehicles (HGVs) exemplify a . With their unique capacity to avoid defence systems by manoeuvring in mid-flight, these weapons pose a significant risk to the global balance of power. China’s rising investments in missile forces at the operational and strategic levels could dramatically change the calculus of major power war.
Despite Its Problems, Network Technology Can Help Renew Democracy
The impact of digital technologies on contemporary economic and social development has been nothing short of revolutionary. The rise of the internet has transformed the way we share content, buy and sell goods, and manage our institutions. But while the hope of the internet has been its capacity to expand human connection and bring people together, the reality has often been something else entirely.

A Tribute to Saleh “Gadi” Johar
By Dr. Daniel Araya From the onset, it’s imperative for me to state the two reasons that made me undertake this write-up. Firstly, and for transparency, I have to disclose a soft spot and admiration I have for Saleh Johar .Secondly, the constant demonization and abuse to his person, understandably makes sympathy with him . I’m yet to come across many in the Eritrean cyberspace that can boast of the intensity, meticulousness, and selflessness of Saleh G Johar.
America’s Unipolar Moment Is Over: What Comes Next Is Unclear
Traditional systems of multilateral cooperation and negotiation are breaking down. At a time when the world must develop comprehensive and coordinated solutions to a range of existential crises, the global order is instead dividing into separate and distinct spheres of influence. No single event underscores this growing divergence more clearly than the Ukraine war.

Central Bank Digital Currencies Will Reshape the Global Economy
In 1694, the Bank of England became the first bank to regularly issue banknotes as a means of payment. Before currency, the first known forms of money were agricultural commodities such as grain or cattle. Today, the world’s central banks maintain a legal monopoly on the creation and destruction of money. However, with the rise of the internet and cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, central banks are now under pressure to develop their own digital currencies.
