I'm a Local Democracy Reporter with the Kent Messenger Group/KentOnline via the BBC's Local Democracy Reporting Service. In this position I cover the work of lower tier (city, district, borough) local authorities throughout Kent, as well as broader issues of local politics and democracy.
I graduated with a BA in Politics and an MA in Multimedia Journalism, both from the University of Kent, as well as the Gold standard NCTJ Diploma in Journalism. I started writing in my own time during my second year of my undergraduate degree at university, and have had my work published in a variety of outlets. I served as a sub-editor for the Opinion section of the University of Kent's student newspaper InQuire in the 2020-2021 academic year, after which I was elected to the position of Website Opinion Editor, and served in that role for the 2021-2022 academic year. In these positions I gained a wealth of experience in both writing and editing comment, analysis and opinion writing. Whilst studying I did freelance reporting and feature writing, and regularly wrote opinion and analysis pieces on British politics, political history and political culture. I wrote a monthly opinion column for the blog site Backbench for about a year during my final year of my undergraduate degree.
