British Down East Style Meets Performance
The Connecticut Spring Boat Show is special to me for a few reasons. Located at my homeport of Essex Island, it acts as a reunion of sorts for friends and acquaintances within the industry. It also signals the unofficial start of the boating season. Perhaps because the show was on my home turf, it was that much more noticeable that there was a new face in a familiar place.
Wally Power 50X - Power & Motoryacht
Star Wars and boating have been synonymous in my life since my days watching the original trilogy on VHS in my parents’ cabin—don’t get me started on the prequels. My passion for boating and a galaxy far, far away once again intersected when I arrived at Ferretti’s Fort Lauderdale showroom to test the Italian giant’s new Wally Power 50X.
South by Down East
Seconds after I stepped from the warm cockpit of the Sabre 51 Salon Express into the cold November wind coming off Long Island Sound, I was chilled to the core. Sea mist hung heavy in the air off the Connecticut coast. I snapped a few photos and retreated to the salon, where the late-autumn sun coming through the windows bathed the cherry interior in a golden glow. It felt like walking into a ski lodge with a crackling fire.
Reflecting on a Trawler Icon
In July, it was reported that Kadey-Krogen would be filing for Chapter 7—a total liquidation of the company. Fingers are pointing, and opinions are being cast on docks around the world. In recent years, the builder aimed to branch out and evolve the 50-year-old trawler brand to include a motoryacht company with its line of Summit yachts, while also diversifying through the acquisition of American Tug.
Legend in the Making
Photos Courtesy Grand Banks Yachts Originally named American Marine and building out of Hong Kong, Grand Banks would go on to become one of the most instantly recognizable power boat brands in the world. As a nod to the brand’s 70th anniversary, Grand Banks is currently building a new 70-footer. 1964 was a year defined by cultural shifts. It was the year Beatlemania landed on U.S. shores, influencing everything from music to fashion.
Riviera 4300 Sports Express
Australian giant Riviera strikes me as a boatbuilder that has long been comfortable in its own shoes. Not usually the first to shift with the trend of the moment, its steadfast commitment to building high-quality, bluewater boats has earned the brand loyalty in spades. Of all the trends the industry has seen in recent years, one of the biggest has been the push toward outboard-powered dayboats. Photo: Darcy Starr Riviera’s answer to this tide shift? Boy and a Boat
Evening reading has been a staple of my adult life. Biographies, history books, and magazines from the masters of their craft once sat neatly stacked on my nightstand. Over the last couple of years, my reading list has shifted to children’s books that range from religion to taco-eating dragons and everything in between. Some of the stories have been excellent, but many have left much to be desired. “I could write this,” I would often grouse.

Sunseeker 82 Ocean
It’s not hyperbole to say that I was impressed by the Sunseeker 82 Ocean after my first step from the dock to the cockpit. The Ocean line, which includes an open or enclosed 90-footer, in many ways feels like a small superyacht, but with the goal of keeping owners and guests connected to the water. No space does that better than the transforming aft deck. When underway, the area can, and should, remain completely flush and clear.

In Memoriam: Chris Caswell
If you lined up all the boaters who have been touched by a story, column, or book Chris Caswell wrote, they would likely stretch across an ocean and back again. During his 50-plus-year career as a marine journalist, Chris held myriad editorial staff roles, but his most enduring work came as a contributing writer for brands such as Power & Motoryacht, Passagemaker, Yachting, Sail, Cruising World, and countless others.

Risk-managed antidepressant prescribing in primary care mental health: what pharmacogenetics can (and cannot) deliver
Introduction Most mental health care happens in primary care, where antidepressants are prescribed at scale and often under time pressure. Yet the dominant prescribing model remains incremental “trial-and-error”: start a first-line antidepressant, monitor tolerability and symptoms, then switch or augment if response is inadequate.
Beyond the cut-off: measurement bias, calibration, and fairness in mild cognitive impairment screening
Introduction Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is commonly framed as the stage between typical aging and dementia, where decline is detectable yet daily independence is largely preserved. In real-world care, however, this clinical construct is often reduced to a threshold rule: a brief cognitive screening score below a fixed cut-off. The rule is attractive because it is fast, scalable, and seemingly objective.

Reimagining the frailty review: meaning, metrics, and the missed opportunity in global ageing care
Introduction Frailty—across physical, cognitive, psychological, and social domains—affects more than 10% of older adults in England, with prevalence rising steeply with age (1), and similar rates are reported internationally, with associated risks of falls, hospitalization, and mortality (2–4). The UK's National Health Service has embedded frailty into policy, such as the Aging Well programme, anticipatory care planning, and the EHCH model (1).

A Gift for the Boater Who Has Everything
In today’s world of Amazon’s next-day delivery, people are becoming harder and harder to shop for. For the most part, if we really want something, we can have it delivered to our doorstep—oftentimes within hours. And boaters? Forget it. We already have access to the world’s best pastime; what else do we need? Tim Armand made one thing crystal clear as we cruised aboard his new Fleming 85 Enclosed Bridge off Greenport, New York: St. Somewhere is his ultimate boat, but not necessarily his last. “Never say final,” he says with a chuckle. His boating background makes that much evident.

Power Cat Pioneer
A high school dropout at the age of 15, Lex Raas says his father’s boatyard was his university, a proving ground where a lifelong fascination with building better boats began. A young South African with a love of being on the water and a chip on his shoulder, Raas’s earliest sailing cats were relatively simple craft. Yet those first experiences were formidable and would lead him to go on to form the catamaran giants Leopard and Aquila.

Running at Night? These 5 Simple Things Will Keep You Safe

Edward II: Queer Rebellion Leads To Political Breakdown In The RSC's Latest Production
Edward II is a play which considers the question: what would happen if the King of England was in love with a demon twunk? The RSC’s new adaptation of Christopher Marlowe’s classic historical play tells the tragic true story of King Edward II, whose love of “favourite” Piers Gaveston led to a political breakdown between himself and his magnates.
Aid Cuts Could Result In 10 Million More People Getting HIV By 2030, Study Shows
Up to 10.8 million more people could be infected with HIV globally by 2030 as a result of aid cuts made by Donald Trump and Keir Starmer. Modelling published in the Lancet HIV medical journal on 26 March says that a decade of progress in the fight against HIV and AIDS could be lost, unless the funding can be found elsewhere.
Catherine McGann's Photos Are A Love Letter To Queer New York Nightlife
“Not to toot my own horn, but I actually did those pictures before Paris is Burning came out,” says the woman I’m speaking to over Zoom. She has thick-rimmed green glasses and straightened dark pink hair, framed by baby pink money pieces. It’s been 24 years since Catherine McGann left The Village Voice newspaper, but you can tell she’s still a punk-rock art school kid at heart.
Living with Endometriosis in Ireland: The Reality Beyond the Diagnosis
A new daily pill for endometriosis has been approved in the UK. The pill combines multiple hormones and works quickly to target symptoms. Only 1,000 people will be able to access it each year but at least it’s a step in the right direction. I remember the first time I got my period. I grew up in a very … liberal household. Periods, tampons and the birds and the bees were explained to me from a young age, so I wasn’t overly surprised when I noticed the first signs of menstruation at the age of twelve.
OPINION: Pop Culture Needs To Stop Glamorising Drugs
When I first moved to London in 2009, Time Out’s LGBTQ+ section was explicitly centered around nightlife. There was literally nothing else for us to do than to go out and fuel our relationships with alcohol and drugs. Our culture was boxed into a life of addiction. 16 years later, just this month in fact, a news segment aired on ITV about chemsex drugs, highlighting the heartbreaking death of 27-year-old ‘Tahir’ who was found dead after several days of heavy drug abuse.
