Delay in flowering of Yongchak affecting farmers in Tamenglong
“In this era everything seems to be changing in this world. People are not just aware of the changes and what is causing it. Whether it is global warming or climate change everything seems to be affected,” feels Aguina Pamei of Atonguining village in remote Tamenglong district of Manipur. Aguina Pamei, a 50 year old man from Atonguining said that the changes became visible in the flowering of the popular ‘Yongchak’ or stink beans in 2006-07.
Street library installed to stop garbage dumping
Saturday, 16 September 2023 Northeast Mini libraries were installed at garbage dumping sites to inculcate the habit of reading and maintaining cleanliness in the Tamenglong town areas. Development or destruction?
As the saying goes, ‘every coin has two sides,’ the implementation of developmental projects in Manipur’s Tamenglong district has its two sides too. Following the implementation of various developmental projects, it has also led to human expansion while also causing massive felling of trees and deforestation, thus posing a great danger to the climatic condition in Tamenglong and Noney districts.
The road to health remains a long trek for Tamei villagers

Jhum cultivation has never been an easy job - after cutting down trees from the areas to be cultivated, farmers have to wait for about two-three months to burn down the fallen trees/plants that are dry by now. HIV/AIDS spread - a growing concern in Tamenglong
She informed that in the last two years, active OST clients have increased to 76 from 24 at the Tamenglong District Hospital, Duigailong. As the district hospital is located quite a distance from the headquarters, an NGO called AWARE is providing OST where the incidence of HIV active clients have increased from 395 to 779 in the last two years, the CMO said. As many as 85 drug addicts are registered at the rehabilitation centre, she said.
Dangerous road conditions pose serious risk in Tousem
People in Tousem area in Tamenglong district, Manipur, is facing immense hardship as the construction of their “dream road” has been dampened by the impact of the ethnic conflict in the state and the connecting roadways are made worse by the inclement weather conditions. Tousem town is located about 20 km west from Tamenglong HQ. Accessing the roads connecting the town is a nightmare even for emergency cases besides transportation of basic amenities.
Tamenglong witnessing high cancer cases
Tamenglong district has been witnessing increasing number of cancer cases. This was highlighted at a one-day cancer awareness camp in Tamenglong. "Tamenglong district is witnessing high cases of various types cancer such as Nasopheryngeal Cancer, oral cancer, throat larynx, lungs, stomach, or colon, etc. Among females, breast, womb and cervical cancers are common," Dr Indibor told the Imphal Free Press on the sidelines of the one-day cancer awareness camp in Tamenglong.
The Secret Revealers: The Last Man Reveals
Their pictures are slowly fading, as their band long since died, and most of the members have gone away. But The Secret Revealers from Tamenglong, Manipur continues to live in the hearts of many. And, their diehard fans raved about them and brought back memories of their good old days as one of the surviving band mates, Madan T Panmei, passed away on April 5. KC Kiubang Gabriel, the lone surviving band member is now 76.
