What was your first job as a journalist?
Photojournalist for The News & Observer was my first job as a journalist.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, I had used a typewriter a few times in my life--mostly when I was younger. I can remember my mother had this old green and a black one.
How is social media changing news?
Well, social media has been a double edge sword. Access to information at your fingertips, yet the question of the source is credible.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
#InappropriateFuneralSongs is probably the funniest #hashtag I have seen--newsworthy not sure.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I prefer to be pitched via email. This option allows me to go back and re-read anything I might have missed from a phone call/in-person mgt
Why did you become a journalist?
We all have a voice and a story to tell. I feel free when I am writing.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes, I did work for my high school newspaper. I went to East Wake high school in Wendell, North Carolina.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Take your time while doing the research; it is essential to get as many details as possible before writing or interview.
What's your favorite drink?
Hmmm, I like to keep it simple--whisky neat.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Oh, great question, when I am not in front of my computer, I love to be at the beachside listening to the waves.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
I love the aspect of the user experience so depending on a person's outlook on life and previous interaction/influence with the subject or place.
