What was your first job as a journalist?
I wrote an article on a famous singer for a popular local magazine.

Yes. I'm awful!
How is social media changing news?
The most game-changing asset for journalists is the opportunity to engage public opinion and get information real time.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Carrie Bradshaw! (I'm assuming we mean a journalist who is a fictional character)
What does it mean to be a journalist?
A journalist is an educator, an advocate, a risk-taker and a voice where there is silence

Not so much news... but always very funny... #MomTexts

Email or social media
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Microsoft Word, Excel, Googledrive, thesaurus.com, google browser
What's your favorite social network?
facebook because it can be both personal and professional
Who do you wish followed you?
Rihanna! She is my fellow country-woman and I'd love to interview her.
Why did you become a journalist?
I was born a writer. I've been writing since I could read and I love telling stories.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No I went to a poor school in a developing country. There was no school newspaper.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Anything I've written on social and environmental topics. I recently wrote a piece on gender inequality in response to a sexist column. :)
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Take risks. Write about something that no one else is writing about. Make the personal professional. Do collaborations with other creatives!
When's the best time to pitch you?
At night or in the evening. I hate mornings!
What's the best pitch you ever got?
An amazing investigative piece on the sewage situation in Barbados.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
An article on cement!
What's your favorite drink?
Barbados Rum Punch but not when I'm writing!
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
With my three daughters or on the beach.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Vice.com. I love how edgy it is. I love journalist Aviva Stahl as she's fearless.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
I'm not sure... I haven't encountered any misperceptions about me to date.
