DMB Pulp: Dad Jokes, the Solution to Everything
The following is bullplop. Magnificent, splendiferous bullplop. In point of fact, it is so wonderfully ridiculous, that I know beyond a shadow of a doubt it must be absolutely true…and vouched for by leading sciencticians everywhere. According to a reliable news source, a totally legitimate study says that “Dad jokes” may help children’s development. Booyah. I knew it. I mean, I didn’t know it. But I knew it.

DMB Pulp: The Summer of Grit and Bonding
The summer of my thirteenth year on this Earth, I spent most of my evenings and weekends retooling a crapped out ‘67 Camaro with my father. When I say “crapped out” I’m holding back. The body was more bondo than metal. We rebuilt the camshaft and the crankshaft. Eventually, I think we replaced everything…twice. We built a pulley system in the carport. And I think that engine spent more time suspended above the car than actually resting on the supports.

DMB Pulp: The End is in Sight
I’ve reached that point in my writing career where after I have a heart to heart with one of my sons they request that I please not write about it. Of course I tell them I won’t. I mean, what kind of monster do you think I am? I’ll tell you, I’m a monster with a bad memory. How can I possibly remember what things I’ve promised not to write about and what things I haven’t? So I just live in the moment. This week’s moment was signing my oldest son up for driver’s education. Yeah, that time has arrived.

DMB Pulp: Smoke 'Em if You Got 'Em
If you’re a smoker, I don’t mean to judge, (why are you killing yourself? Stop killing yourself!) but I’ve been allergic to cigarette smoke since I was a little kid. Back in the early eighties, my family would occasionally make a formal effort to dine out. To be sure, this was a limited excursion with several firm boundaries in place. First off, nothing more expensive than $8.99 a plate. Secondly, nothing too exotic, meaning absolutely no Oriental food.

DMB Pulp: Into the Great Blue Yonder
It’s a wide, wide world of sports out there. As a sixteen-year-old “dork” (my older brother’s affectionate name for me) I knew but one thing—my need to experience a part of the world not the one I had grown accustomed to thus far during my short life. Being one for extensive research and preparation when it comes to important life decisions, I opened the college application booklet my teacher handed me. I flipped to the list of acceptable state universities.
