Consensus recommendations for the use of novel antiretrovirals in persons with HIV who are heavily treatment‐experienced and/or have multidrug‐resistant HIV‐1: Endorsed by the American Academy of HIV Medicine, American College of Clinical Pharmacy: An exe
1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Antiretroviral therapy (ART) for persons with HIV-1 (PWH) has evolved, introducing new agents, formulations, and regimens. Nevertheless, drug resistance, adverse effects, and limited options still pose challenges. These challenges limit therapeutic options and can have dire consequences, including higher risks of treatment failure, worsened clinical outcomes, increased transmission of HIV, and higher mortality rates.
The association between empiric antimicrobial therapy and the risk of clinical failure in critically ill patients with aspiration pneumonia
ORIGINAL ARTICLE Permission to reproduce material from other sources: This manuscript does not make use of any previously published material. Abstract What is known and object Aspiration pneumonia is a clinically important infectious process that can result in increased morbidity and mortality. Empiric antimicrobial therapy with activity against anaerobes has been a standard practice based on previous studies, which isolated anaerobes from respiratory cultures.

Treatment strategies for persistent methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia
What is known and objective Treatment of methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteraemia is a long‐standing challenge to health care, often complicated by metastatic infections, treatment failure and mortality. When MRSA bacteraemia persists despite adequate initial treatment, current Infectious Diseases Society of America guidelines recommend evaluation and removal of possible sources of infection. In addition, a change in therapy may be considered.
Stability of a pyrimethamine suspension compounded from bulk powder
Purpose Development of a stability-indicating high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for pyrimethamine analysis, with subsequent application of that method to assess the 90-day stability of a pyrimethamine suspension compounded from bulk USP-grade pyrimethamine powder, is described. Methods A stability-indicating method of HPLC with ultraviolet detection specific to pyrimethamine was developed according to pharmacopeial recommendations and validated.

Isavuconazonium sulfate: a triazole prodrug for invasive fungal infections
Isavuconazole is a triazole currently approved not only for use in invasive aspergillosis and mucormycosis but also has demonstrable activity against Candida species and other common fungal pathogens. This drug has features which make it more clinically appealing compared to other azoles with similar indications. In specific, isavuconazole does not require a cyclodextrin vehicle due to its water solubility, and at present, does not require therapeutic drug monitoring.
