Electric Piano News: Wurlitzer, Rhodes and Tentij
The Wurlitzer family, aka Wurlitzer Licensing UG, has announced that the Wurlitzer 250D project has been “paused”. Wurlitzer 200A electric piano Following the successful 2021 launch of the Rhodes MK8, it had been mooted that a modern successor to the legendary Wurlitzer 200A—dubbed the 250D—might finally debut this year. In 2024, Wurlitzer partnered with Italian manufacturer Dexibell to scope the project, but Wurlitzer felt that the proposed instrument wasn’t quite what they wanted.
Opinion | Waterloo Region’s water shortage is a warning. It shouldn’t have been a surprise
For anyone who read the 2015 report of the advisory panel on Ontario’s land use plans that I chaired, that’s not a shock. The panel named Waterloo Region directly. It was already managing its groundwater carefully back then — conservation bylaws, demand management programs — because the projections on future growth were not reassuring. The moraines feeding its aquifers were identified as areas needing protection. This wasn’t buried in a footnote. It was a central finding. That was eleven years ago.

Mid-rise buildings give us an opportunity to vastly expand housing options in Toronto
Ontario has been gripped by a growing housing crisis for most of the last decade and its impacts are causing some serious anxiety for those responsible for solving it. Why? Young workers and their families are leaving the Greater Toronto Area, driven out by housing costs and limited options. The Toronto Board of Trade calls this “a massive threat to our economy.” Toronto’s strength as a place of enormous employment opportunity rests on our ability to house young people.
Ontarians have just lost core democratic protections
Shortly after 4 p.m. on June 4, Ontario took a sharp turn away from democracy. That’s when Bill 5, ironically titled the “Protecting Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act,” became law. Marketed as a way to protect jobs and respond to Trump-era tariffs, this legislation quietly hands Premier Doug Ford and his cabinet sweeping new powers.
New Product: Rhodes Stage 61 Electric Piano
The Rhodes Stage 61, the latest addition to the Rhodes piano lineup, is a compact and more portable version of the company’s iconic electric piano, the Rhodes MK8, which was introduced in 2021. Known for its signature sound that shaped music through the ’60s, ’70s, and early ’80s, Rhodes Music Group has reimagined the Rhodes piano’s classic design. This innovative approach caters to musicians seeking to capture the unique sound and playability of the original instrument.
Don’t cast your vote for Ontario’s next premier unless they make this promise
All of the Ontario party leaders and candidates in the Feb. 27 election need to understand that the Greenbelt is not just something nice to have — it’s absolutely essential to Ontario’s future success and security. It’s not just about green space — it’s about our economy, our food security, and our water resources. The Greenbelt is already one of the best tools we have for taking care of what matters most. We must be looking at ways to protect and expand it, not chip away at it.

To make Ontario liveable again, Ford needs to fix the housing crisis. So why is he making it worse?
When Ontario Premier Doug Ford was re-elected in June 2022, he promised to help solve the housing crisis. He had the mandate and the power — the provincial government has control over powerful planning legislation and policies that determine what housing gets built where and it has powers to encourage affordable and reasonable rents. Two years later, things are only getting worse. Vacancy rates are low. Rent and home prices are still too high. Housing starts have plummeted.
Five New Virtual Pianos
With five new product releases, it has been a busy month in the world of virtual piano plugins. Could this be something to do with Christmas? The offerings in question come from Modartt, Native Instruments, IK Multimedia, Rhodes, and Roland. So let’s take a closer look… EARTH Piano is available through the Roland Cloud infrastructure — the home of all Roland’s software-based musical instruments. EARTH Piano features seven base models that can be extensively modified to taste.
Doug Ford’s hasn’t learned from the Greenbelt scandal: Ontario’s housing strategy still promotes sprawl and paving over farmland
The Ontario government is about to undo the protections we have for the province’s watersheds, wilderness and farmland. They’re also taking away the public’s ability to speak out — claiming it’s the only way to get affordable housing. The government is wrong. The consequences of two new housing laws introduced by Premier Doug Ford will remove remaining guardrails to unbridled, costly, and unaffordable low-density sprawl with no guarantee that affordable homes will ever be built.
Doug Ford’s “Get It Done” Act worsens housing crisis with sneaky new push for sprawl
Premier Doug Ford claims his new so-called “Get it Done Act” will make it easier to build houses in Ontario, but in reality it’s a disingenuous piece of work that quietly slips in changes that will make Ontario’s housing crisis worse. Hidden in the middle of this messy omnibus bill is language that will require many Ontario municipalities to allow new development on previously protected farmland, forests, river valleys and wetlands. New Pianos at NAMM 2024
The NAMM Show (National Association of Music Merchants) has become the main showcase for new musical instruments. This year’s event, held at the Anaheim Convention Centre, Los Angeles, ran from January 25—28 and attracted visitors from all around the world. Many piano manufacturers had a presence at the event (see below), however, the number of new piano-related products seemed to be down compared to last year. Nord produces a range of high-end digital stage pianos.
Greenbelt scandal may only be the beginning of land-use problems in Ontario
We know a lot already how Premier Doug Ford and his Progressive Conservative government handed over huge chunks of Ontario’s Greenbelt to a select few well-connected developers. But there’s still a lot more that the people of Ontario need to know. The facts so far are appalling. Ford and his housing minister Steve Clark are trying to ignore this scandal. We need further investigations. Already a Subscriber? Sign in kAm%92?<D E@ E96 D4@C49:?8 DA64:2= C6A@CE @?

Opinion | Ottawa has an obligation to protect the Greenbelt Original
It’s good news that federal Environment and Climate Change Minister Steven Guilbeault has signalled that he may step in to fight for Ontario’s Greenbelt. His statements confirm that the federal government has both a responsibility and an obligation to protect the largest portion of the Greenbelt lands under attack.
Opinion | Three former mayors of Toronto on why the More Homes Built Faster Act disempowers municipalities — and needs a serious rethink before proceeding
As former mayors of Toronto, we support the idea of rules and regulations which create more affordable housing in Toronto and in other cities, and doing so in a timely manner. But Bill 23, the More Homes Built Faster Act, proposes to make changes which are a significant attack on municipal powers and finances, and it needs a serious rethink. First, it is improper to hold hearings on this legislation now, when councils are no longer in session.

Opinion | We cannot sprawl our way to housing affordability Original
Optimizing land already approved for development and building in our existing communities is the most economic strategy to provide the housing people need and can afford. By David CrombieContributors Anne Golden Tue., Jan. 18, 2022timer3 min. read Unless you were binging on Netflix and chips and never coming up for air, there’s no way you would have missed that housing prices have soared to the “forget it” level for the majority of people living in the Golden Horseshoe.

Many Canadian leaders seem more eager than ever to reassure citizens that public policy decision-making is evidence-based, at least where COVID-19 is concerned.

Get Ready for PIANO DAY 2019
What is happening on March 29th, 2019? If you are a member of the European Union you will be fully aware that March 29th is BREXIT day — the day the United Kingdom is scheduled to leave the EU. But it is also PIANO DAY 2019. Piano Day is an annual global event that takes place on the 88th day of the year (there being 88 notes on a standard piano keyboard). And in 2019, that day is March 29th. For what purpose?… “to celebrate the piano and everything around it”.

The Queen's Piano - World Piano News

130th Anniversary of the First Piano Recording
130 years ago, on August 14th 1888, a recording of famed composer Arthur Sullivan’s “The Lost Chord” was played to members of the press at an event in London, England. It is generally accepted that this is the first piano recording ever made. Recording a concert using a phonograph (Crystal Palace, London, 1888) The device used to make the recording was a phonograph — Thomas Edison’s 1877 invention. The phonograph etches grooves, modulated by the incoming sound, onto a rotating cylinder.
Ontario must protect Greenbelt as population pressure increases
Some interests in the development industry are using high housing prices as their Hail Mary pass to build on the Greenbelt. In recent weeks, this narrative has been widely dismissed by experts. It has been proven that there is a significant amount of under-utilized land (125,500 hectares according to the Neptis Foundation) in the Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH).
David Crombie: Why Toronto Should Further Explore a Bid for Expo 2025 | cityscape | Torontoist
The former mayor argues that Toronto can use Expo 2025 as a catalyst for citybuilding. There comes a time in the life of every major city where one must look ahead and envision where we want to be in the decades ahead—how will we achieve future prosperity and a greater quality of life for our children, for youth, and for all the citizens of Toronto, Ontario, and Canada.
