Letter: Thanks for your instructive advice, G. Wolff
To the editor — Thanks, G. Wolff, for your response in the editorial pages. I've taken it seriously. You called me a "Trumphater." Well, if hating being led by a delusional, pathological cheat and liar, a twice-proven sexual abuser and character assassin, a 34-time convicted felon, an extortionist, a cheerleader for sedition and open insurrection at nation's Capitol, and thief of innumerable government documents, then I fit the bill. I am a Trump hater. And proud of it.
Letter: Inexplicably, we're stuck with this guy all over again
To the editor — President Trump? Again? Really? He's the best choice to lead us? What happened to character and qualifications? Namely, ethics, reliability and diligence, competence, experience, empathy, honesty, respect for others and one's predecessors These are all foreign concepts to the mentally ill, proven sexual abuser and convicted felon who has been gifted the office of POTUS by the American voting public ... for a second time. What's wrong with this picture?
Letter: Trump deserves some poetic justice
To the editor — To paraphrase poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning ... How does Trump con thee? Let me count the ways: Barack Obama wasn't born in the U.S. Vladimir Putin is honest. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy might have dirt on Biden. Trump's inauguration crowd was bigger than Obama's. He's never met Stormy Daniels or E. Jean Carroll. He's never committed business fraud. Ever. He's a good Christian. Only he can fix it. The Deep State is coming for you. He won the 2020 election.
Letter: The witching hour is at hand, Mr. Trump
To the editor — I just have a short question and comment: So, are all of the multiple state and federal indictments against former President Donald J. Trump just part of a "huuuge" witch hunt? Bingo! You'll never get it, Mr. Trump, but YOU ARE the witch. Among so many other things. Ding dong ... DAVID HAUN Naches
A Heartbeat from Disaster
Introduction In this particular passage of Scripture, the nation of Israel, to the north, has fallen so far from God's desire and purpose that he has given up on them, and they have been defeated and carried off into captivity. Judah, the southern kingdom, is following the same pattern. They have become more and more distant from God's desire. This portion of Scripture deals with Josiah, king of the southern kingdom. Josiah found the temple full of corruption.
Letter: Donald Trump's betrayals make him unfit for office
To the editor — Every president takes an oath to preserve and protect our Constitution. And of course, we have been misled by some of them. That is not new in American politics. But a planned coup attempt? That was a shocking stab in the back. Former President Trump's elaborate strategy to remain in power illegally is betrayal. A betrayal of his oath and our Constitution. Our founding fathers' ideals, and their legacies, have been betrayed.
Letter: Let's be clear on who's doing the stealing
To the editor — Donald Trump is not a statesman or a patriot. He is a hustler and a fake, and always has been. And, yes, please, stop the steal. Stop sending this grifter cash that he uses for witness tampering, bribery, false advertising, mail/wire fraud and conspiracy to commit sedition, to say nothing regarding assault and battery on police officers. Money to reverse the election? Huh? Send your donations to reputable charities. Stop the steal. And "Hang Mike Pence"?
Letter: Tired excuses of NRA, Republicans are no help
To the editor — We should be appalled by this violence, and by the NRA's and most Senate and House Republicans' tired argument that the gun is not the problem, the problem is the killer shooting the gun. Well. Yeah. That is a problem. But these killers aren't running into schools and businesses with slingshots or bows and arrows or swords or baseball bats, or even handguns or hunting rifles.
Letter: It's easy to see why civility is under attack
To the editor -- A great column appeared in the March 31st edition of the Yakima Herald about "civility" -- a word not coincidentally derived from the same root as "civilization." Anger or disgust concerning any number of issues is natural. But we must retain civility in our debate of them.
Letter: You're still backing Trump? Then you've been conned
Sitting here, on Jan. 6, snowed in, contemplating the administration of the former president and the violent insurrection at our Capitol at his behest, I cannot think of a single positive comment regarding Donald J. Trump. Except that he may be the greatest con man in history. And in answer to a letter to this paper printed on Dec. 21, no, it will never feel good to be led by an extortionist, liar, seditionist and insurrectionist. Every single decision Trump makes is based on what is best for him.
Letter: 'Rugged individualism' or just selfishness?
To the editor -- I'm sick and tired of the illogical, misinformed, selfish and downright stupid arguments to not take the COVID-19 vaccinations. Unless you have a compelling medical reason not to take the vaccine, get started. If you refuse to take it due to religious reasons, I don't want to hear it. Take that religion somewhere where it won't threaten me, or my family's or my friends' lives. You say that you don't know what's in it.
Letter: Republicans who cling to Trump are trashing conservative values
To the editor — Donald J. Trump: the gift who keeps on giving. The Republicans of the House and Senate have had two chances now to correct their abandonment of traditional conservative values and put Trump in the rearview mirror. And to move forward and honor their oath of office. But through their cowardly devotion to this pathological liar, narcissist and criminal element, they've left our democracy vulnerable to violent insurrection. All due to their fear of Trump's criticism.
Letter: Trump was willing to let 250 years of history disappear
To the editor — Our Founding Fathers had guts. Almost 250 years ago they decided to risk their fortunes and lives on the small chance that we could break away from British rule and empire, at that time the greatest empire on Earth since Roman domination. The government they created here became the envy of the world, largely due to the peaceful and successful transition of power from one leader to the next.
Letter: Basic safety procedures are necessary and temporary
To the editor — Yes, folks, there is such a thing as science. It’s based on proof, facts, and thereby truths -- three concepts the Trump administration, sadly, was and is unfamiliar with. Science has improved our lives over the centuries in too many ways to mention here. And no, the COVID-19 virus does not care what time of day it is, or what time of year. It does not care about American politics. It only seeks a host so that it may spread.
Letter: Vote for what America should be
To the editor — Let's please put party and politics aside. To heck with Republican or Democrat labels. Never mind the right or the left. Set aside conservative or liberal agendas. We have a government, designed by our forefathers almost 250 years ago, that has served us well.We are the modern experiment of democracy. Are we perfect? Of course not. We argue. We debate. We compromise. We fall short in many ways. But in spite of that, many have bled and died for this imperfect ideal. Our democracy survives.
Letter: President's thoughts, actions are harmful
To the editor — Let's describe a few of the thoughts and actions of the current president of the United States. He was taped talking about grabbing women's privates. He paid large sums to cover up affairs. He has publicly taken Vladimir Putin's side against his own intelligence services. He refuses to release his tax returns. He surrounds himself with felons. The current president of the United States tweets eighth-grade insults at his political opponents, among others.
Letter: Trump's words, actions don't need bias, spin
To the editor — Referencing a fairly recent letter printed here, I strongly disagree that President Trump is a victim of "media bias" and "snarky" comments. A victim? Really? Trump is the king of snarkiness. Just witness his thousands of tweets. Is there media bias out there? Of course. Misinformation? You bet. But let's take a look at what we know about this self-proclaimed "stable genius" minus the bias and spin.
Letter: Trump, enablers need to be removed in November
To the editor — President Donald Trump has been kneeling on the figurative neck of American democracy for going on four years now. He needs to be removed before it's too late. Trump is not a Republican. He is not a leader. He is an opportunist. He is a deceitful New York City confidence man, born into wealth and power and influence. He has no morals or ethical base, no concern for anything but his own fame, branding and ratings. Events in American history are not always predictable.
Letter: Trump has never been qualified to be president
To the editor — It would be nice to write about puppy dogs and rainbows. But that's not what's on my mind right now. What's on my mind is the unbelievable layering of lies and obfuscation coming from Trump and his administration. Layer after layer of barefaced lies and obfuscation that try to hide and distract from the president's huge but incredibly fragile ego. Trump has never been qualified to hold this office. He lies and bends the truth to serve his needs. He has no humility.
Letter: We are not Trump's constituents -- we are his audience
To the editor — Thank you, Steve Jones, for your letter published on March 30. Jones has succinctly and accurately described President Trump and his administration's failure to adequately recognize and respond to the threat of the COVID-19 virus. We might ask, how did we arrive here? I maintain that we are suffering the results of the biggest and most disastrous publicity stunt in the history of this nation.
Letter: Trump and crew laugh at the rules and laws
To the editor — President Donald Trump is the perfect example of a person with huge amounts of power and money, mixed with no personal character. Zip. Zero. Nada. For Trump and his crew, laws and rules are meant to be laughed at and broken. Trump is a player. He's played every system he's ever been involved in. The draft during the Vietnam War. The real estate business. The American tax system. Marriage. The print and television news services.
Letter: McConnell, Graham need to tell Trump enough is enough
FILE — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Ky., right, speaks with reporters, Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019 in Washington, on Capitol Hill. FILE — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Ky., right, speaks with reporters, Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019 in Washington, on Capitol Hill. AP Photo / Alex Brandon, file To the editor — Hey, U.S. Sens. Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham: Do you guys really think you're going to live happily ever after defending President Donald Trump?
Letter: Trump is unfit for office and needs to be removed, either by impeachment or at the ballot box
To the editor — Can someone please tell me what has happened to the Republican Party in this country? Where is the party that once faithfully defended our Constitution? The party that vociferously defended the people in our military? Our law enforcement? Our foreign services? Our intelligence services? Our overall sense of duty? Where are they? Observing the Republican performance in the House impeachment proceedings, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Laugh?
Letter: Trump is behaving more like a monarch than an elected president
To the editor — It occurred to me recently, amid the uproar about the president’s misconduct and incompetence, that no one, including any number of Democrats and their organizations, has done more to destroy the Republican Party than Donald J. Trump. One silver lining may be that his administration is an object lesson in who not to elect and what not to do in American politics.
Letter: We need to take up the banner, "Make Democracy Great Again"
To the editor -- Can someone please tell me what's going on in this country? Have we regressed to embracing the old, nearsighted saw, "America, love it or leave it"? That phrase ridiculously simplifies and twists what American patriotism is all about. From the beginning of our democracy we have embraced these ideas: freedom of speech, dissent, peaceful assembly, the press, and free/open elections. These ideas set us apart from monarchies and dictatorships.
Letter: Time to stop Trump, a 'shallow opportunist'
To the editor — Don't worry folks. Stand back. Everything is gonna be fine. President Trump is making America great again. Know in your heart there was no improper Trump campaign involvement with the Russians. Remember, no one has been tougher on them than Trump. He keeps us abreast of the absolute truth everyday. Just ask Sean Hannity and Sarah Sanders. Trump has always paid all of his taxes, like every other patriotic American.
Letter: Trump, himself, is in 'bad taste'
To the editor — Regarding the recent letter that stated my earlier letter, while critical of President Donald Trump, was in “bad taste”: What, exactly, is your definition of that term? Let’s consider that for a moment. I submit Trump’s attacks on dead American patriot and hero John McCain’s memory and dignity is petulant, and in bad taste. Casually tossing paper towels to devastated Puerto Rican hurricane victims is shallow, and in bad taste.
Trump is a 'publicity stunt gone wrong'
To the editor — Hey, fellow Americans. Have we sufficiently recognized that our president is a nut? That he’s spectacularly delusional? That he expects loyalty, but is disloyal to the Constitution he swore to protect? This man-child is woefully unfit to be the most powerful individual in the world. He’s petulant, shallow, mean spirited, dishonest, self-absorbed, hugely egotistical and criminally inclined.
Pointed questions about Trump
To the editor — If the lack of “Trump’s wall” on our southern border is the most pressing national security issue right now, why didn’t the President and the Republican controlled House and Senate get it funded during the first two years of his administration? Because most influential Republicans in Congress don’t want the wall and have slow-walked it for that period. They rightly think billions of government dollars for national security could be better spent.
What is wrong with us? Let's invoke 25th Amendment
To the editor — Since when in America have we decided that being the biggest and best liar, cheat, tax evader, draft dodger and philanderer equates to ultimate success in politics? What’s wrong with us? Have we had dishonesty in American politics in the past? Raging egotism? Bullheaded ignorance? Obvious incompetence? You bet. But Trump takes all of these traits to stratospheric levels. He is the self-proclaimed “best” at everything.
Trump will pay for 'criminal enterprises'
To the editor — To paraphrase Donny Deutsch, lifelong New York businessman: Donald Trump in the world of real estate developers was known as the lowest of the low. This is a criminal guy. Russia, Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougall are the least of his problems. What will put him in jail eventually and destroy everything he’s built, and his children, is a 30-year dishonest, criminal enterprise. One thing will take him out of office, the other will ruin him forever.
Trump is an insecure, delusional marcissist
To the editor — There is not one genuine thing about Donald J. Trump. A small 1-million-dollar loan from his Dad? Try over 400 million over 50 years. And how much did Trump and family during those years pay in taxes to help support the military and police? (Institutions he always at least verbally supports.) There is no objective truth with Trump, only what he thinks and says. He knows how to fire up “the base,” how to keep the fear and distrust percolating so he can “save” us.
President drags American politics to a new low
Sen. John McCain, a man who has more class in his little finger than Donald Trump has in his entire body, has publicly stated that he does not want the president of the United States to attend his funeral. This may be a first, that is to say a very prominent, lifelong American public servant, has disinvited the “leader of the free world” to his impending funeral. You may ask, why?The reasons are many and quite astounding when you think about it. And it goes far beyond personal insults for Sen.
Level the playing field
To the editor — Oh, those wacky high school kids. Funny, aren’t they? How dare they challenge the NRA and their money? How dare they challenge our president, our Senate, and our Congress about gun control? Especially when we know that our elected officials have nothing but our best interests in mind. These high-schoolers are just a bunch of ungrateful brats, right?I have a simple solution. Let’s level the playing field. Everybody should be able to get an AR-15 or similar assault rifle.
Just a matter of time
To the editor — I would like to start this letter with at least one statement we can all agree on: Bill Clinton, George Bush, Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton are not president. Donald Trump is.And if you’re wondering who is responsible for the stink coming out of the White House, Trump is. This administration is dominated by his morally bankrupt, cheating, bullying, narcissistic personality.
Flabbergasted by president
To the editor —When will a “huge” majority of Americans realize that we made a “huge” mistake in electing Trump?A vast majority in New York City voted against him because they know him, his reputation as a swindler preceding him. George Will, one of America’s brightest and most respected conservative journalists, has left the Republican Party because he believes the GOP has been hijacked by a crude entertainer/opportunist/narcissist who has no real interest in anything but himself.
