Neural and psychological predictors of digital status-seeking in adolescence
INTRODUCTION Adolescence is a period of development during which youth become increasingly sensitive to social hierarchies within their peer networks. Increasingly, the ubiquity of social media has transformed the landscape of adolescent peer relations and heightened the visibility of peer status (Nesi et al., 2018a, 2018b). The quantifiable nature of social media offers increased likelihood for both impression management and status-seeking in online spaces among adolescents (Dumas et al., 2020).

David Jack reviews ‘War’ by Louis-Ferdinand Céline
If Louis-Ferdinand Céline were around today, he would almost certainly be cancelled. So why publish a previously unknown fragment of his? Unlike some writers, whose views are inferred from their work, Céline’s anti-Semitism was beyond doubt, if at times a little confused. He wrote two anti-Semitic novels and a pamphlet, and associated with collaborators and Nazis.

David Jack reviews ‘Change: A novel’ by Édouard Louis translated by John Lambert
Change: A novel Harvill Secker, $42.99 hb, 288 pp Fiction Avenging the humiliations of childhood Autofiction differs from autobiography in that, to use Jean Genet’s formula with which Édouard Louis opens his latest novel, Change: A novel, the self is nothing but a ‘pretext’. In Louis’ case, it is a pretext for exploring the self as a sociological, rather than psychological, phenomenon; the enduring product of the social class in which it was forged.

‘I’m here anyway, why not?’: My non-surgical facelift has got me thinking about more procedures
Instead, I just want to look refreshed, and I’ve ruled out any add-ons. My doctor, David Jack, has celebrities and fashionistas queuing up around the block, and believes in the ethos that less is more. He looks reassuringly normal as a result, having personally tried out all of the treatments he now offers his patients – those being the most effective. I ask him to name the biggest mistake women make when they seek surgical intervention. “Trying to look younger,” he replies.

How Powerful Antioxidants Can Level Up Your Skincare Routine
We talk a lot about antioxidants here at Form, mainly down to our unbridled admiration for them. For the uninitiated, antioxidants are substances found in foods that can prevent or slow damage to cells by free radicals — oxygen-containing molecules with an uneven number of electrons.
David Jack reviews ‘Interventions 2020’ by Michel Houellebecq, translated by Andrew Brown
Michel Houellebecq has never been one to hide his light under a bushel. Since the publication of his second and best-known novel, Atomised, in 1998 (the same year some of the pieces included in Interventions 2020 were originally published in French), Houellebecq has established himself as the enfant terrible of French letters, primarily through his provocative and at times incendiary remarks.

David Jack reviews 'The Inseparables' by Simone de Beauvoir, translated by Lauren Elkin
‘I loathe romans à clef as much as I loathe fictionalised biographies,’ wrote Simone de Beauvoir (1908–76). For this reason, the novel and the memoir were her preferred genres, even though the boundaries between the two were frequently blurred, a distinction that Beauvoir insisted must be maintained: fiction has ‘only very dubious connections with truth’.
