How is social media changing news?

It affords people a new way of accessing information, free from the gate keeping practices of traditional outlets.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Spider Jerusalem, of course.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

At its best, journalism is about holding the powerful to account and exposing terrible things.

Why did you become a journalist?

I read a book in 2005 called News Junkie. It grabbed me. I took it from there.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No, there wasn't one.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I'm still learning but my feature on fake news and post-truth was a good one, I thought.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Write. Write. Write.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Any time.

What's your favorite drink?

Pepsi Max Cherry. I don't drink alcohol, I'm afraid.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Reading a book or a graphic novel.
