Bitcoin Withstands Headwinds — Week in Review
Bitcoin round-tripped from last Friday to now, pushing up through the week before giving back all its gains on Thursday, when an oil spike (Brent crude jumped roughly 7% to above $113) and a tech rout hit risk assets. An AI-spending scare was mostly to blame for the tech weakness. Bitcoin’s relative strength against the Nasdaq and AI-linked equities stood out early in the week. Grayscale’s volatility data also supports the hope (the dream) that maybe, just maybe, Bitcoin is becoming less volatile.

Bitcoin is roughly flat in the past seven days, while U.S. equities have been mixed, with the Dow up about 1.8%, the S&P 500 down about 0.5%, and the Nasdaq down about 2.3%. Treasury yields sank on Thursday.
Strangely Rational — Week in Review
Bitcoin is finally showing signs of fatigue after its multi-month ascent from the $60k level to nearly $88k. As of Friday morning, BTC is settling in around $80,800 after what will likely be its biggest weekly downmove since June. Despite the correction, BTC looks technically solid on longer timeframes, and both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq touched new all-time highs this week, fueling general optimism in risk assets. And bitcoin’s resilience remains one of the more interesting stories.
Up and Onwards – Week In Review
Bitcoin’s recovery is looking better against gold as well as dollars. Tuur Demeester highlighted a break above resistance at 18 ounces of gold. PlanB’s case for Uptober includes bitcoin trading above its $54,000 realized price and $66,000 200-week moving average, with 82% of addresses in profit. The monthly relative-strength index is turning upward too. Benjamin Cowen, following last week’s admission, says holding above $83,000 keeps his bear-market thesis on hold.
Bad News Is Good News — Week in Review
For the past week, U.S. equities have moved in a fairly tight range. Meanwhile, bitcoin broke its May high and reached roughly $86,000, continuing its recovery from summer lows near $58,000. Alex Thorn highlighted bitcoin’s first close above its 50-week moving average in 45 weeks. Who, at this point, doubts that the bear market is behind us? Benjamin Cowen admitted his call was wrong. He had expected an October cycle low and no break of the May high this year.
No CLARITY, Plenty of Activity — Week in Review

The newsletter also includes the biggest stories of the week, with a comment on each story. Bitcoin and U.S. equities are relatively flat from last Friday to early Friday morning, but the path from there to here was volatile in both directions.
Everyone Wants to Be the House — Week in Review
From last Friday, bitcoin has moved lower, around -4% in total as of this Friday morning. U.S. equities closed lower every trading day so far this week, driven by rising oil prices, rising U.S. bond yields, and rising conflict in the Middle East. The longer term outlook for bitcoin remains constructive. Bitcoin has reclaimed its 20, 50, and 200-week exponential moving averages, something that historically hasn’t been followed by new cycle lows.
It’s a Memecoin World and We’re Just Living in It — Week in Review
Stocks are up, oil is up, gold is up, and Bitcoin is up, currently at $80,000, up 30% in the last month. Whether or not it’s logical, the debasement/store-of-value trade appears strong, according to Bloomberg’s ETF analyst Eric Balchunas. The crypto bear market appears to be well and truly behind us. For all the talk in this newsletter and elsewhere about the institutions being here, most haven’t really begun to move into crypto with size. Bullish.
One by One, the Industry Is Fixing the Tokens – Week in Review
Thus far, the breakout has held. Through Thursday’s close, U.S. equities have also been flat to slightly positive, owed almost entirely to Nvidia’s nearly 9% Thursday surge, which offset Monday’s semis selloff. After bitcoin’s major move last week, many are wondering what’s next. Tether appears to expect continuation, minting three billion USDT last Friday alone.
Digital Gold Stirs at Last – Week in Review
Fidelity’s Jurrien Timmer, writing days before the move, had bitcoin floundering around $65,000 with no visible catalyst in either direction, though he guessed that a rising tide in gold would eventually take bitcoin and ethereum with it. The band snapped on Thursday morning. Bitcoin added roughly $4,400 in fifty minutes, touching $69,500 and liquidating about $1.1 billion of shorts inside an hour. It might’ve been the largest single-day short liquidation in bitcoin’s history.

CLARITY Stalls, Coldcard Fallout Continues, Bitcoin Barely Budges
Last Friday, Bitcoin dropped from $64.7K to $62.8K, but seven days later it ground its way back up to $64.8K like nothing ever happened. Not bad when taken in isolation. Unfortunately, comparison is the thief of joy. While Bitcoin puttered, U.S. stocks staged a risk-on rally as Trump called off Iran strikes (how many times now?) and oil fell. The Dow ripped past 54,000 for the first time ever, and the S&P reached an all-time high too at 7,737. The macro story of the week was all about Japan.

Despite Tradfi Headwinds, Bottom Signs Abound – Week in Review
Since last Friday, Bitcoin moved from around $64,000 up past $66,500 before dropping to $65K as of early Friday morning. Bitcoin remained buoyant despite U.S. equities having been choppy and broadly lower, brought down mostly by mega-cap tech. Three risks weighed on equity markets: AI capex worries, climbing oil prices, and rising bond yields. Whereas last week’s AI worries centered around Kimi K3, this week AI worries were squarely about capex concerns due to quarterly earnings disclosures.

Let’s see if it reaches and holds the $62,000 support. Donalt, the legendary duck, is paying close attention to the monthly close.
A Winning Strategy: Buy High, Sell Low – Week in Review
As of early Friday morning, Bitcoin has held steady this week, moving in a band between $61,500 and $64,000. Ditto for equities. Both Bitcoin and equities reacted negatively to the intensified US-Iran conflict and spiking oil, but recovered on Thursday. The macro story of the week comes from the East. The weakening yen has pushed Japanese bankruptcies to record levels, and Japan’s 10-year yield jumped to 2.83%, its highest in almost 30 years.
How the Mighty Have Fallen. But That’s Crypto, Baby! – Week In Review
The stock market pushed higher once again this week, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq in the green, and the Dow Jones staging a massive rally to new all-time highs as of Friday morning. The dollar continues to show strength. Luke Gromen believes a “too strong” dollar will trigger foreign selling of U.S. assets. In the digital assets realm, Bitcoin recovered some of its losses but remains in a clear weekly downtrend, currently trading at $61,438 after tradfi markets’ close.
Bearishness Persists, but It’s Not All Bad Folks — Week in Review
Bitcoin spent the week grinding down, and wicking twice below $60K. As of writing this Friday morning, BTC is sitting just above $60,000. Let’s see if that holds. Stocks had their own ugly stretch, led by a rotation out of megacap AI/tech. The Nasdaq fell for four straight sessions through Thursday. The U.S. dollar index remains strong, now at 101.

Everyone Is Getting Hilariously Rich and You’re Not — Week In Review
After dipping just below the $59,000 level, Bitcoin printed a modest bounce above $63,000 in an attempt to reclaim its 200-week moving average. Ethereum and altcoins continued to bleed and are mostly well in the red as of Friday morning. Tradfi markets looked similar, with all the major stock indices down on the week, while precious metals resumed corrective moves. Aside from usual idiosyncratic bear market forces within crypto, there are exogenous factors weighing on digital assets.
