create space to be
DavidStraight · Follow 6 min read · -- I work as a creative marketing designer. I create logos, websites, and brands for small businesses. I work remodeling spaces into places people love coming home to. I also welcome people into the Round Lake Auditorium to enjoy performances and community events. Sometimes I feel like I have too many roles for one guy to do well. I often feel like my life is scattered with so many different tasks and responsibilities that I don’t have one singular focus.
Alma by Jack McKinney Architects
Despite spatial difficulties presented by a heritage listed building, Jack McKinney Architects has created a vibrant and enticing place to be with Spanish restaurant Alma in Auckland’s bustling Britomart precinct. Due to the historical importance of the 1930s building, its original fabric could not be altered. The interior is interspaced with exposed concrete columns and has two narrow openings onto the surrounding streets, further dividing the space.
Deadly Ponies Newmarket by Katie Lockhart Studio

The Side Car by Spacecraft Architects

Spacecraft Architects draws from the surrounding environmental and architectural context, proposing a fitting sibling to the dramatic, bold form that sits so starkly amongst the natural. When planning for an addition, the choice to add to the previous form or build anew becomes a point of contention.
Poured Pleats by Jack McKinney Architects and Cameron Ireland
Poured Pleats – a contemporary extension to an Edwardian villa – takes cues from the existing structure and extrudes them outwards, creating a compelling addition imbued with intent. Designed by Jack McKinney Architects with interiors by Cameron Ireland, this layered home invites and embraces its surrounds.
