Democrat to Republicans: I am no devil. 'How come you and your political leaders hate me?'
President Joe Biden stands with Cindy McCain as he posthumously awards the nation's highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, to Sen. John McCain of Arizona during a ceremony in the East Room of the White House in Washington, Thursday, July 7, 2022. McCain, who died of brain cancer in 2018, spent more than five years in captivity in Vietnam while serving in the U.S. Navy. He later served in both houses of Congress and was the Republican presidential nominee in 2008.

13 Challenges When Applying Scrum to Hardware Design
Scrum has become a popular method for developing and designing software. And why not? There’s clear evidence it improves the resulting software’s quality, shortens time to market, and even increases team members’ job satisfaction. The obvious question, then, is why isn’t Scrum used more widely for designing hardware? It can and should be, and is having success similar to what it has earned developing software.
Scrum for Hardware and Systems Development
You have probably heard of “Scrum,” the Agile framework for software design, and wondered if it could tame hardware and systems projects and help get them done on time, on budget, and defect-free. Here’s a look at Scrum and the challenges in applying it outside of software. What is Scrum? As shown in the infographic, the Scrum development process is built around two- to four-week design efforts called sprints.

Scrum for Hardware and Systems Development
Saab Aerospace used the Scrum method to design the JAS 39 Gripen E, the Swedish strike fighter. This jet plane is faster than the Lockheed-Martin F-35 Lightning, and has similar combat range, but is not stealthy. Its initial cost is about half that of the F-35 and its operating costs are about 25% of the F-35’s. These cost benefits are attributed in part to the use of the Scrum. Scrum methodology has had significant success in improving software development.
Federal Infrastructure Law and Policy: 2019 Update | JD Supra
On February 15, President Trump signed H.J. Res. 31, the “Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2019,” averting a new government shutdown and authorizing appropriations for the remaining unfunded federal agencies through September 30, 2019.
Trump Infrastructure Plan Proposes Expansion of Federal Credit Programs | JD Supra
Last week, the White House released to Congress its long-awaited infrastructure plan—a 53-page Legislative Outline for Rebuilding Infrastructure in America[1] (the “Outline”)—to accompany its proposed Fiscal Year 2019 budget.[2] The Legislative Outline largely reflects the central themes of the infrastructure “fact sheet” published last May and analyzed in our related client alert[3]—namely, the use of a limited pool of federal dollars to leverage further investment in projects by states,...
Documenting the Design Process
It is important that engineers document the design process so that they can communicate it to others and ensure no information is lost. It is also critical for convincing decision-makers to approve the project and move it forward. The information can also help prove originality in case of a patent application or, in case of a lawsuit, demonstrate that professional design procedures were followed.
Final Laurentide ice-sheet deglaciation and Holocene climate-sea level change
Despite elevated summer insolation forcing during the early Holocene, global ice sheets retained nearly half of their volume from the Last Glacial Maximum, as indicated by deglacial records of global mean sea level (GMSL). Partitioning the GMSL rise among potential sources requires accurate dating of ice-sheet extent to estimate ice-sheet volume.
Laurentide ice-sheet instability during the last deglaciation
Changes in the amount of summer incoming solar radiation (insolation) reaching the Northern Hemisphere are the underlying pacemaker of glacial cycles1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. However, not all rises in boreal summer insolation over the past 800,000 years resulted in deglaciation to present-day ice volumes1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, suggesting that there may be a climatic threshold for the disappearance of land-based ice.
Vortex Generators for Cooling
The cooling air for the IO-360 engine in my Velocity SEFG comes through two NACA style ducts in the top of the fuselage. The air then downflows through the cylinders and is exhausted out the rear of the fuselage about 2 inches in front of the propeller. I have flown the plane for about three years, and it has always run hot.
OSU professor emeritus fought -- and lost -- battle for lower textbook prices
I would like to add another perspective to Richard Read's piece in the Sunday Oregonian on textbook cost. I am an Emeritus Professor from Oregon State University. In 1992, a major publisher began selling the first edition of my text, "The Mechanical Design Process," a book for Junior/Senior Mechanical Engineering students. Last month the 5th edition was released. This is a book, among many, that sells a couple of thousand a year as contrasted to the Econ book in your article.
Hear the Hum?
Work is underway to develop an electric Waiex aircraft powered by this 270-volt, 200-amp motor. Its estimated the airplane will be able to cruise at 70 mph on 30% power for an hour. Its a new era. Increasing concerns about fuel availability and cost are being met with encouraging technological advances, especially in the field of electric-powered aircraft.
