David Hook’s Biography

David Hook is the Managing Director at Baymark Partners, a private equity firm known for its strategic investments in leveraged recapitalizations and management buyouts of high-growth and middle-market companies. Over his tenure, David has led the firm in acquiring 60 companies and investing in over 50 early-stage high-tech firms, many of which have completed successful IPOs or have been sold for upwards of $165 million each.

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, David started his higher education at Bowling Green State University before earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Wittenberg University. He remains connected to academia as a guest lecturer to MBA students at Southern Methodist University, sharing his extensive knowledge in business finance.

David is a respected member of the Southwest Venture Forum Steering Committee, where he advises startups on aligning with strategic plans and improving financial operations. He also actively contributes to the DFW Private Equity Forum, helping to foster profitable alliances among venture capital firms in North Texas.

Early in his career, David decided to relocate to California during the formative years of Silicon Valley in the 1980s. This move proved instrumental as he gained significant experience and made early investments while working with Mohr, Davidow Ventures. He co-founded the first Hook Partners Fund and has been a general partner in several related venture capital partnerships since.

His expertise extends to leveraged finance, a strategy that allows companies to fund significant acquisitions with minimal capital. Since 1982, David has managed assets totaling approximately $165 million as a private equity investor. He has invested in many companies, many of which have gone public or been sold for significant amounts.

In 1988, David anticipated the burgeoning success of the Telecom Corridor in Dallas, Texas, prompting a move to the area where he began working with Carolina Capital Corporation. He contributed significantly to managing this small business investment company (SBIC) here.

Currently, David is pivotal at Baymark Partners, driving the firm's most successful tech investments, including in companies like Volterra Semiconductor and Promatory Communications. His ability to leverage emerging market trends to launch new business ventures has solidified his reputation as a leader in the investment community.

David Hook also dedicates time to philanthropy, serving on several boards and supporting charities that aid the underprivileged. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, tennis, and pickleball, traveling, and watching his favorite sports teams.
