I'm a Helsinki-based journalist and broadcaster covering diverse stories that grab my attention across the Nordic & Baltic region, with a broad interest in politics, environment, lifestyle, crime, arts, minorities, immigration, tourism and education.
I used to be a conflict zone journalist, now I'm a comfort zone journalist. I was based in Iraq for almost 6 years as a Fox News correspondent, reporting also for Sky News and BBC Radio Scotland; and then I spent two years in Islamabad with The Associated Press heading up their video news-gathering teams in Afghanistan & Pakistan.
I moved to Finland in spring 2011 in a new AP Television role, covering the Nordic & Baltic region - and undertaking assignments in many other parts of the world as well. In summer 2014 I made the move to be freelance, and now get to pick & choose my assignments. In autumn 2015 I became the presenter of Newsmakers, HSTV's English-language current affairs show in Finland, and a weekly contributor to Helsingin Sanomat, the largest circulation daily paper in the Nordic region.
In my career I've been lucky enough to report from locations as varied as the Arctic Circle and Cape Town; from Tokyo to Venezuela; across the Nordics from Akureyri to the Åland Islands and many points in between.
In the last few years I have written for Politico Europe, VICE and Forbes; and reported on air for BBC Radio Scotland, STV, and Finland's MTV News.
