Experimental causal inference from measurements alone in the presence of spatial and temporal quantum correlations
Abstract The causal structure of a set of events specifies which events influence which others. Determining this structure, known as causal inference, is a fundamental task in science. Reset-style intervention is commonly used to determine causal structure in classical scenarios. However, in the more fundamental quantum theory, there is evidence that projective measurements alone can suffice in some cases.
Global vessel carbon dioxide emission from navigable rivers
Abstract Inland water vessels are a substantial but poorly quantified source of transport-sector CO2 emissions. Using approximately 20 billion automatic identification system records and a trajectory completion algorithm, we provide a global high-resolution assessment of inland vessel CO2 emissions. These vessels emitted 164.0 ± 1.58 TgCO2 in 2022, equivalent to 24.7% of global waterborne vessel emissions, despite operating on only 0.4% of the global navigable marine and inland water surface area.

Blockchain-based isotopic big data-driven tracing of global PM sources and interventions - Nature Communications
Abstract Tracing sources and assessing intervention effectiveness are crucial for controlling atmospheric particulate matter (PM) pollution. Isotopic techniques enable precise top-down tracing, but the absence of long-term, global-scale multi-compound isotopic data limits comprehensive analysis. Here, we establish a blockchain-based isotopic database, compiling 34,815 isotopic fingerprints of global PM and its emissions from 1,890 pollution events across 66 countries.
Direct entanglement detection of quantum systems using machine learning - npj Quantum Information
Abstract Entanglement plays a crucial role in advancing quantum technologies and exploring quantum many-body simulations. Here, we introduce a protocol aided by neural networks for measuring entanglement in both equilibrium and non-equilibrium states of local Hamiltonians, with a favorable amount of training data.
Deconstructing the map of the paradigm struggle: tracing a nationwide debate on “I do not get it” in Art Magazine (Meishu) - Humanities and Social Sciences Communications
Abstract Understanding the contemporaneity of non-Western art has gained significant attention from scholars across various academic disciplines and different countries. With respect to the notion of “contemporaneity” of contemporary Chinese art, the related theoretical struggles suggest a complex paradigm map that consists of the geographically distinct sociocultural, economic, ideological, political, historical, ethnic and gender characteristics of the PRC.

Chatter Detection in Thin-Wall Milling Based on Multi-Sensor Fusion and Dual-Stream Residual Attention CNN
1. Introduction Thin-walled parts are key components of aerospace equipment, and the quality of their machining performance directly affects whether the equipment can safely operate. Due to their low stiffness, chatter is prone to occur during machining, which can lead to problems such as poor surface quality, severe tool wear, and even damage to the machine spindle [1,2,3].
Lithium Battery SoC Estimation Based on Improved Iterated Extended Kalman Filter
1. Introduction With the continuous development of new energy vehicles, lithium-ion batteries have been widely used in the field of electric vehicles due to their high energy density and long cycle life [ 1 , 2 ]. In order to enable the battery to provide stable and reliable energy and avoid the phenomenon of over-charge or over-discharge, it is very important to accurately estimate the state of charge (SoC) of the battery.

Airborne magnetic particulate matters (MPs) in PM2.5 have been observed in human tissues, for example, the brain, heart, and pleural effusion, which have attracted widespread concern. Here, we show that the pollution level of MPs in PM2.5 (MPsPM2.5) increased remarkably during the 2021 Beijing sandstorm episodes. Moreover, the stable Fe isotopic compositions of MPsPM2.5 were investigated to identify and constrain the origins of the increased MPsPM2.5 pollution.
Data-Driven Machine Learning in Environmental Pollution: Gains and Problems
The complexity and dynamics of the environment make it extremely difficult to directly predict and trace the temporal and spatial changes in pollution. In the past decade, the unprecedented accumulation of data, the development of high-performance computing power, and the rise of diverse machine learning (ML) methods provide new opportunities for environmental pollution research.

g-C3N4/CoNiFe-LDH Z-Scheme Heterojunction for efficient CO2 photoreduction and MB dye photodegradation Biao Zhu, Qianxin Xu, Xiaoyan Bao, Dawei Lu, Hao Yin, Yumei Qin and Xing-Can Shen Abstract The development of efficient and stable photocatalyst to solve environmental issues is essential and remains a big challenge.
Resurgence of Sandstorms Complicates China’s Air Pollution Situation
During March 14–15, 2021, the majority of Northern China was struck by the most intense and widespread sandstorm experienced in the past decade. The peak concentration of particulate matter with a diameter less than 10 μm (also called inhalable particles, PM10) in Beijing reached 3,600 μg/m3 (nearly 72 times higher than the WHO 24 h mean guideline limit). This region was then repeatedly struck by the same-level sandstorms a further four times over a two-month period.
COVID-19-Induced Lockdowns Indicate the Short-Term Control Effect of Air Pollutant Emission in 174 Cities in China
The contradiction between the regional imbalance and an one-size-fits-all policy is one of the biggest challenges in current air pollution control in China. With the recent implementation of first-level public health emergency response (FLPHER) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in China (a total of 77 041 confirmed cases by February 22, 2020), human activities were extremely decreased nationwide and almost all economic activities were suspended.

Two-Dimensional Silicon Fingerprints Reveal Dramatic Variations in the Sources of Particulate Matter in Beijing during 2013-2017
Since the implementation of the “Air Pollution Prevention and Control Action Plan” (APPCAP) in 2013, the air quality in China has been greatly improved but still much exceeded the WHO guideline limit. Here we employed a novel approach, two-dimensional Si fingerprints, including stable Si isotopic composition (δ30Si and Si abundance (Si%), to investigate the annual variations in both primary and secondary sources of PM2.5 in Beijing during the APPCAP period (2013–2017).
Natural Silicon Isotopic Signatures Reveal the Sources of Airborne Fine Particulate Matter
Airborne particulate pollution is a critical environmental problem affecting human health and sustainable development. Understanding of the sources of aerosol particles is of extreme importance for regional air pollution control. Here we show that natural Si isotopic signature can be used as a new tool to elucidate the sources of fine particulate matter (PM ).
Enhancing quantum control by bootstrapping a quantum processor of 12 qubits
In this paper, we refer to unnormalized deviation density matrices (without the identity term) as ‘states’, which is a standard convention in ensemble quantum computing. To distinguish from the Hamiltonian, we use capital X, Y, and Z to denote states and ? , ? and ? to denote Hamiltonians, while they both refer to the same set of Pauli matrices.
Recent advances in analysis of non-traditional stable isotopes by multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry
Non-traditional stable isotopes, with no clear definition yet, generally refer to isotopes beyond C, H, O, N, and S with small variations in natural stable isotopic composition, such as isotopes of transitional and heavy metal elements. With the rapid development in multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS) technique, non-traditional stable isotopes have emerged as powerful tracers in geosciences, archaeology, anthropology, and environmental sciences.
