What does it mean to hide in Jesus's wounds? Find out in my new interview & podcast
LOPEZ: What's key to understanding intercession? EDEN: Intercession is the human face of divine love. Jesus's wounds reveal the intercession he made for us on earth so that we might be made one with him. There is a beautiful passage in St. Faustina's diary where she describes a vision in which she perceived that God chooses to look at humanity only through the wounds of Jesus.

Love Unleashed through Suffering
Thirty years ago today, Pope John Paul II released a work so important to him that he urged all the faithful of the world to “reread and meditate” upon it. He told World Youth Day participants that he wanted this work “to be a guide” for their lives. He even incorporated this document into two of his most influential encyclicals, Fides et Ratio and Evangelium Vitae . Protestant philosopher Alvin Plantinga called it “surely one of the finest documents (outside the Bible) ever written” on its topic.
A Woman in the Seminary | Dawn Eden
I recently went to a vespers service at the institute of Catholic higher learning that I attend, celebrated in honor of the school’s outgoing president. When it came time for the honoree to give some remarks, he said, “All students, could you please stand.” The seemingly innocuous request threw me into a paroxysm of indecision. All students? I thought. Surely he doesn’t mean me? . . . But he said all students . . . Slowly I raised myself from my pew in the midst of the crowded chapel.

Media ignore standoff between Kenya's Catholic bishops and its government over tetanus vaccine fears
Pia de Solenni last week drew the attention of the Catholic blogosphere to a story out of Kenya that has escaped mainstream-media notice in the United States. In her words, "the Bishops of Kenya issued what appeared to be a courageous statement exposing a clandestine population control program disguised as a tetanus vaccine program." Now, read the following carefully. The bottom line is that if the bishops' allegations are true, it's a serious issue and a major news story.

Saved By The Cowbell: Mark Volman Of Sixties Rockers The Turtles Is Now A Christian Professor
Backstage at the Bottom Line, NYC, with Howard “Eddie” Kaylan (left) and Mark “Flo” Volman, New Year’s Eve, probably 1990 This Judaism-to-Sixties-rock-to-Christianity-to-academia life path is contagious! I just learned with joy that one of my favorite musicians from the 1960s is now a Christian, active as a youth minister in his local church, and is a professor at a Christian college in Nashville. Mark Volman was born in 1947 to a Jewish father and Catholic mother.
Francis: Our new Pope of Divine Mercy

Honky Tonk Girl
Loretta Lynn famously sang “You’re Lookin’ at Country.” But as three urban cowgirls arrive at a Washington, D.C., hipster haven, the 9:30 Club, to see Lynn’s first local show in two years, we’re looking at irony: opening act Southern Culture on the Skids, a longtime favorite in the campy genre known as psychobilly.
Building a Culture of Lie
Last June, Catholic journalist Matt C. Abbott played “devil’s advocate” with an exorcist. The exorcist was Fr. Thomas J. Euteneuer, author of the newly released Exorcism and the Church Militant. As president of Human Life International, he had issued a press release damning 12th & Delaware, an HBO documentary that focused on a corner where a pregnancy resource center faced an abortion clinic.
Building a Culture of Lie
Dear Guillaume (and all other contributors): Thank you for your comments. Our article states very clearly, citing the Catechism, “Catholics and others have a right to remain silent, and protect priviliged information (2488-2492)”, so undercover police work, for example, and/or resistance to a totalitarian state is permitted, provided we maintain that principle. Remaining silent, or legitimately withholding information, is not the same as directly lying.
Tricks Are for Kids
Conservatives have long criticized the lingering effects of the 1960s, and not without reason. The legacy of the “Love Generation” — or, as renamed by some disaffected ex-members, the “Destructive Generation” — is decidedly ambiguous.
