Mad Love: A Story Of Vibing So Hard With A Record
I remember JoJo in middle school. She was kind of a big deal to me and my friends because she was the first recording artist that we could relate to in age and she was quite popular. I looked up to her, and honestly felt a little jealous at the same time. I wanted to be her so badly. Then Jojo faded. At least in my life anyway. Cut to 2016: she reappears! I was on Instagram one day and I saw a video captioned “Do you remember JoJo?” “Ohh shit? Fuck yeah. JoJo!” I took a dive into the JoJo-verse.
The Friend of a Writer
Art by Kendra Mase • February 8, 2020 Last night I caught up with an old friend over Skype. I had texted her weeks ago and now she texted me back, curious of my New York travels and how my writing was going. She is the only one as of now who has read the first few chapters of this draft 2? 3? I have been working on. It is strange to share your work with someone, especially when they don’t hate it. When they say this is the most clean and well-paced version yet.
When Imagination Is Not Enough
Art by Kerstin Stokes • February 6, 2020 Have you ever sat down and began writing your next story but couldn’t get the words to come out? So many things that we could have created but yet our imagination is blank and distant from what we truly want.
Sundance 2020: (My) Day One
Sundance Film Festival, taking place near the end of January every year, celebrates what’s considered the best in independent film — from feature films and documentary to shorts and episodic content. This year, in its home of Park City, Utah, there were over 128 feature films spanning the 10-day festival. And I got the chance to see some of them. For some context on my trip to Sundance … I’ve actually been trying to attend the festival since 2006.
A Night Owl Reviews "Night Owl" From Olivia Jean
Art by Dayna Brownfield • September 13, 2019 The irony — in that Alanis Morissette “Ironic” kind of way — that I am composing a review of an album titled “Night Owl” as the clock clicks past midnight … 1AM … then 2AM isn’t lost on me. I am a self-proclaimed night owl. A creature who pulls her headphones on after 10PM to surf the Internet, read articles on upcoming movies and dance around her apartment on a steady stream of songs.
Going On An Adventure
Last year, Samantha Puc was talking with friend Alice Lesperance about cool it would be to create a space where fat folx could talk about being active, adventuring, & traveling; a safe space where you could exchange ideas with other fat folx. In January, the two took that idea to Twitter to see if anyone would be interested. And as the internet does, the tweet blew up.
