Mushrooms NW Ohio
I lived in Toledo for 6 1/2 years, and there was some good mushroom hunting in that northwest six County corner of Ohio....
Remington Model 32 replacement triggers
I ran into a Remington Model 32 at the Ohio Gun Collectors show yesterday. It was a low serial number (64X) field gun. It had an added Simmons rib, was reblued, had aftermarket wood, and the metal was buffed reducing some of the engraving. The price was in the ballpark, but the trigger kept me from buying it. I assume that this Model 32 started life with the double triggers found on early field guns. At some point, I assume someone upgraded the trigger to the single trigger that was on the gun.
Missed 2 coyotes and got 2 coyotes in the fog.
On my first stand of the morning yesterday I missed 2 coyotes in some fog with my rifle. In the fog I could only see about 200 yards. I am pretty sure I got excited and jerked the trigger. Shooting two rounds of Trap with a shotgun the night before didn't help my smooth rifle trigger pull any. A few stands later I was sitting in some bushes about 3 foot tall with my Foxpro about 25 yards out in front of me.
Nephew got coyote last night
My Nephew called in a trio of coyotes last night and was able to take one with his Remington 783 in 22-250 at about 140 yards.
Ohio Deer Gun Season opened today...Daughter got one
Today was the opening day of gun season here in Ohio. Not long into the morning and my Daughter had one down. A very nice 10 point. Doug
First k-80 did I get a good deal ?
Ended up winning a k-80 at the local auction house. I’d like to think I got a good buy at 12k but looking for some other opinions. It’s my first ever high dollar gun I’ve always had brownings and Remingtons. Also anyone know where to get a nice top single for it or should I buy new ?

Seeking recommendations on shooting glasses with Rx lens
I am at the age where I need a little prescription for distance in my shooting glasses. I have a pair of Ranger XLW, so I bought the insert for the RX. I tried them and just don't like the feel of the insert. They make the targets pop but seem too close to my eyes. My lashes hit them periodically too. I am looking to go to Ranger Classics or Edge Rx style glasses. Wayne at Morgan said he can do Rx lenses for these.
Great Day Pheasant Hunting at Thorn Bottom Hunting NW Ohio
My Nephew and I had a great day at Thorn Bottom Hunting. Brad, Anne, and Matt did a great job of hosting us for a combo pheasant and groundhog hunt. Have you ever gone to a hunt club and had the dogs tree a groundhog for you to shoot? Matt and his dogs did just that today for us. I am not old enough to remember wild birds in NW Ohio. I have been to other hunt clubs. This place has to be at the top of the list. It was warm today, but the dogs still did great.
Rabbit Hunt
#1 · Results of a recent rabbit hunt in SW Michigan. My buddy and I shot our limit. I used my Winchester Model 12 20 gauge marked CYL from the factory. No dogs. Just kicking the brush. See less See more #2 · I'll bet that was a lot of fun! Wish we still had a rabbit population in NE Ohio, always loved hunting them. #4 · It was fun and we were hunting in great cover. We hunted several times at a different spot and didn't get any.

Vintage Shotgun Pic thread
#1 · @SD Trap Family has inspired me with some great thread ideas recently. How about we post up some vintage shotgun pics of trap guns, hunting shotguns, etc. Make them 1980ish or prior. Doug Here is a couple to start. Dad (center) with a couple buddies, Iowa circa 1970ish, with NEW Rem 1100. Uncle Floyd, holding Rem 32 TC in about 1942ish. Dad 1960ish, with NEW Browning Double Auto Trap gun. Same gun, recent pic See less See more

Remington 1100 nut??
I have kind of a strange one here. I am not an expert on the Rem 1100. I have had many of them but have not done much work on them. My Nephew brings down his Grandfather in laws 1100 trap. He let another family member borrow it and it was returned to him with some serious rust on the outside of the receiver. The inside was not bad. Long story short, when we took out the spring and cap for the magazine tube, we found this nut. I looked on a parts diagram on the internet and didn't see one like it.
Browning Double Auto firing pin length?
It was bound to happen. I have a Browning Double Auto with an issue. In all of the ones that I have owned, I have never had an issue that changing ammo didn't fix. I am getting light primer strikes with an Autmn Brown DA. I took it apart and the firing pin measures 2.60" exactly. Both the firing pin and firing pin spring look good. The gun is clean as a whistle. I am assuming that the firing pin has worn short. Anyone have a new firing pin to measure? I will call Art's after the holiday if I need to.
Remington Model 32 Ohio Upland Day
#1 · a moment ago My Nephew and I got out for an all day Remington Model 32 upland hunt. We lucked into a pheasant and got our limit of rabbits. It was a great day in NW Ohio carrying our 80+ year old shotguns. Doug

Field report - Savage Model 93 in 17 HMR
I came across a good deal on a used Savage 93 in 17 HMR. I have really fallen in love with it. It came with a low end Tasco scope which is pretty clear. I need to hit it on paper again as it must be printing a little high at 100 yards. Once I figured where it is shooting, I got on a couple hogs tonight. Spring time in Ohio is one of my favorite times of year. This little rifle has me excited about shooting hogs again. I bought a brick of Remington 17HMR ammo which this gun seems to really like.
Browning 725 ejector retaining pin (screw) popped off
During a round of trap today, the ejector retaining pin on my wife's Browning 725 Trap popped off and the ejector rod fell out. Thankfully, we were able to locate both the tiny retaining pin and also the ejector rod. I was able to put the ejector assembly back together, basically had to unscrew the ejector extension screw, remove the whole thing, put back the retaining pin and slide the whole assembly back into the gun before tightening the extension screw again.
Browning A5
#1 · I'm just curious what everyone's thoughts are concerning the A5 for a clays gun. I've never seen one on a trap, skeet, or SC's course but I'm not really sure why. From what I've read they are extremely reliable and are easy to clean and maintain. My grandpa had a light twenty that I've shot a few times and had no problems hitting targets and the recoil was not bad at all. So what gives? Why doesn't anyone seem to shoot them? #2 · Great field gun but the recoil adds up over many shots at clays.
Oakley Tombstone glasses
Anyone have the Oakley Tombstone shooting glasses? Looking for some trap guy's opinions. The net is full of people who love or hate them. I found a shooter at the club tonight who had a pair and I liked them. They seemed really nice and light weight. I have used Randolph products for trap and Oakley for everyday use. Thanks, Doug I am looking at getting a pair of the Tombstone Reap sporting clay glasses.
