Gut bacterial lauroyl tryptamine reduces GPR183-associated inflammatory responses in human macrophages and T cells in vitro
Abstract Introduction: Recent research has highlighted the role of gut microbiota in producing bioactive metabolites that interact with G-protein coupled receptors (GPRs) and influence immune responses. Lauroyl tryptamine (LT), a metabolite produced by Agathobacter rectalis (formerly Eubacterium rectale), has been reported to antagonize GPR183, a receptor implicated in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). LT inhibits the binding of GPR183 with its natural ligands 7a,25-dihydroxycholesterol (OHC).

Imaging of Hydrated and Living Cells in Transmission Electron Microscope: Summary, Challenges, and Perspectives
1. Introduction Click to copy section linkSection link copied! Light and electron microscopy are key methods for characterizing the structure of biological samples. However, due to the diffraction limit of light microscopy, it is not able to detect such delicate cellular structures as ribosomes (20–30 nm wide), actin filaments (7 nm), various intra- or extracellular vesicles (50–150 nm), and bacterial flagella (20 nm diameter) or pili/fimbriae (5–8 nm diameter).
Patterns and predictors of 12-month treatment of common anxiety, mood, and substance use disorders in the World Mental Health (WMH) surveys: treatment in the context of perceived need | International Journal of Mental Health Systems
Abstract Data from the World Mental Health (WMH) surveys on the coverage cascade has underscored the importance of perceived need for seeking treatment of mental disorders. However, little research has focused on treatment contact after adjusting for perceived need. We do so here in analysis of WMH data. The WMH data considered here come from 25 community surveys implemented between 2001 and 2019 across 21 countries.

Significant strides: Women’s advancement in endurance sports
To some, these series of numbers are random. To others like me, these numbers symbolise how far women have come in endurance sports. By the time this article is published, it will be months since Jasmin Paris, a British ultra-endurance runner, became the first woman to finish the Barkley Marathons. Inspired by her historic finish, I started writing this narrative less than 24 hours after the event. But why is Jasmin Paris’s finish so impressive?
Effect of emphysema on AI software and human reader performance in lung nodule detection from low-dose chest CT - European Radiology Experimental
Abstract Emphysema influences the appearance of lung tissue in computed tomography (CT). We evaluated whether this affects lung nodule detection by artificial intelligence (AI) and human readers (HR). Individuals were selected from the “Lifelines” cohort who had undergone low-dose chest CT. Nodules in individuals without emphysema were matched to similar-sized nodules in individuals with at least moderate emphysema.

Effectiveness and Cost-Effectiveness of Colorectal Cancer Screening With a Blood Test That Meets the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Coverage Decision
Background & Aims A blood-based colorectal cancer (CRC) screening test may increase screening participation. However, blood tests may be less effective than current guideline-endorsed options. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) covers blood tests with sensitivity of at least 74% for detection of CRC and specificity of at least 90%. In this study, we investigate whether a blood test that meets these criteria is cost-effective.

PCR standard curve quantification in an extensive wastewater surveillance program: results from the Dutch SARS-CoV-2 wastewater surveillance
1. Introduction The idea of monitoring pathogens through wastewater has been applied for decades (1, 2), but interest in waste waterbased epidemiology (WBE) has significantly increased with its applications during the COVID-19 pandemic. SARS-CoV-2 detection in wastewater is currently employed as a monitoring tool in over 70 countries, with several programs reaching significant population coverage (3).
Good manufacturing practice production of CD34+ progenitor-derived NK cells for adoptive immunotherapy in acute myeloid leukemia
Cancer Immunology, Immunotherapy, Jul 2023 Allogeneic natural killer (NK) cell-based immunotherapy is a promising, well-tolerated adjuvant therapeutic approach for acute myeloid leukemia (AML). For reproducible NK cell immunotherapy, a homogenous, pure and scalable NK cell product is preferred. Therefore, we developed a good manufacturing practice (GMP)-compliant, cytokine-based ex vivo manufacturing process for generating NK cells from CD34+ hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPC).
Primary Exposure to SARS-CoV-2 via Infection or Vaccination Determines Mucosal Antibody-Dependent ACE2 Binding Inhibition
The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the introduction of SARS-CoV-2 in an immunologically naive population, has provided a unique opportunity to study de novo immune responses induced by infection or vaccination. Most immunological studies on SARS-CoV-2 to date have focused on serum antibodies and not mucosal antibodies.
Web of attributes: analysing residents’ appreciation of a Dutch neighbourhood from a new heritage perspective
Journal of Housing and the Built Environment, Jul 2023 In the last century, the concept of what can be heritage has expanded in definition, opening to everyday architecture and living environments. More recently, the group of stakeholders to be involved in heritage assessment and management has slowly grown, with authorities acknowledging that heritage significance lies in the representation and identification for people and that people could help define it.
Dilemmas concerning heart procurement in controlled donation after circulatory death
Introduction Since the criteria for determination of brain death were introduced in 1968 (1), heart transplantation relied on donor hearts from donation after brain death (DBD). Use of hearts from controlled donation after circulatory death (cDCD), where death is defined by the irreversible cessation of circulation (2), has proven to increase the availability of donor hearts of acceptable quality (3–7).

Ship-to-shore training for active deep-sea capacity development
Abstract Sailing on scientific expeditions as an early career researcher (ECR) offers the beneficial opportunity to gain field experience and training. However, the number of available berths to achieve the scientific goals of an expedition limits the number of onboard participants. Telepresence and remote learning can be utilized to increase the number of active participants, broadening the reach of capacity development.

Practice of changing gloves and its effect on surgical-site infections
Surgical-site infection (SSI) remains a common complication after surgery that increases morbidity and mortality, and causes considerable strain on both patients and the healthcare system1. The use of wound closure protocols, including the routine change of gloves and instruments, has been suggested to help prevent SSI. Although this may seem common sense in the presence of gross contamination or large glove tears, it is less obvious when gloves or instruments appear to be clean and intact.
Detecting measurable residual disease beyond 10−4 by an IGHV leader-based NGS approach improves prognostic stratification in CLL
The sensitivity of conventional techniques for reliable quantification of minimal/measurable residual disease (MRD) in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is limited to MRD 10−4. Measuring MRD <10−4 could help to further distinguish between patients with CLL with durable remission and those at risk of early relapse. We herein present an academically developed immunoglobulin heavy-chain variable (IGHV) leader-based next-generation sequencing (NGS) assay for the quantification of MRD in CLL.
