Nigeria’s February 25 presidential election in which a former two-term governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, emerged as the president-elect, may have come and gone. But the lessons from it are likely to linger with us for a long time. Arguably, one of the most competitive political battles in Nigeria’s history – it is no doubt an election in which the youth, including students, have made their voices heard.
One of the events that put Nigeria on the map of countries at war, is the Herders/Farmers crises that took the North East and North Central by storm. The violence was purely a failure of governance as whereas Lake Chad has dried up, and herders embarked on a wild and ruthless exodus taking their cattles to find water, thereby displacing farmers and outrunning villages, settlements, and towns.
