The House on Rondo By Debra J. Stone As an adult, in the course of my travels I learned quickly that if I wanted to know where a Black community was in a rural area, especially in the South, I only needed to find out where the railroad tracks were in the town. In an urban area, all I needed to do was look at where the freeway ran; if not through the Black community, it would run alongside it. And as we know, this was no accident; this was by design.
I just received the notice of a ballot coming out to increase taxes in the Town of Silverthorne. Enough is enough. I must have missed the memo, but what is the purpose for this tax increase? How is this going to create affordable housing? Sure, I’m happy that the value of my house has increased, but I’m not happy with the property taxes that have skyrocketed these past years.
