Alliance magazine
BuySocial currently markets itself as ‘aiming to build markets for social enterprises among the general public and private and public sectors’. But that’s not building a market, is it? It’s pushing against the existing markets, as though we’re trying to thinly squeeze through the obese for-profits. To me, that’s playing on defence. It’s way too conservative.
The greatest marketing strategy for 2019
It’s simple. It’s one single word. Transparency. On the back on an economic crisis in 2008, suspicion and dubiety has become increasingly prominent in our society. Uncertainty about the future generated fear, austerity measures were in place, and the luxury of purchasing consumer goods shrank. Get funding for your social enterprise through an experimental approach
Here’s the truth: the business model you have now is not the business model you will have in a year’s time. The product or service you offer now, will not be the same in a year’s time. And it shouldn’t be. You should view a business as an embodiment of your vision. You should also view it as a ground for experimentation. So, detach your ego from the original idea and be open to experiment. To all the new social entrepreneurs aiming to put their idea forward, funding always seems to be a struggle.
A new era for Muslim philanthropy?
Muslim Philanthropy is vast, and it was inevitably going to be difficult to dissect such a rich topic over a three-day event. However, this year’s Global Donors Forum was a wholehearted attempt. Insights were crammed into back to back plenaries, dialogues, award ceremonies and networking events was sure to leave a lasting impression on practitioners within Muslim philanthropy.
