Slowly But Surely Becoming a Writer
I began writing seriously when I was about 13. Many would ask what I was doing on my parent’s brick of a laptop that I would sneak away from the kitchen and into my room after supper. My only answer was that I was writing. Short stories? Nope. Poetry? Definitely not. I was writing a novel. After reading “Twilight” and “The Hunger Games” somewhere I figured, if Stephanie Meyer and Suzanne Collins could do it, why not me?
Anxiety Like A Bound Rope; Depression is Like A Black Hole
Art by Mellyssa Diggs • January 27, 2020 You wake up with the rope around your legs. Getting up feels like getting out of a tight alley space but you do it anyway. All of a sudden, the rope is strangling your legs. You beg. You plead. The rope gets tighter. Restless. It begins to break the skin. Maybe someone hears explaining you cannot get unraveled. “How hard can it be. It’s just a rope. Your arms are free” “I am already tried” Then I just don’t answer or ask again. You wake up again.
Comparison - the trap for artistic growth
Every time you do not follow your inner guidance, you feel a loss of energy, loss of power, a sense of spiritual deadness. — Shakti Gawain There is a very interesting reflection that Osho made in his book “fame, fortune and ambition” that goes like this: People always think < the neighbor chicken its better than mine> But they are all wrong, they are distracted.
You Are Art | Harness Magazine
Art by Lex Brode • January 20, 2020 You are an artist. What makes an artist? Beauty? Grace? Creativity? All of these things live within you. Is it not art, the way each strand of your hair falls to frame a beautifully unique face? Is it not art, the way your hips sway for different melodies and genres, and the way they linger in all of your favorite places? Is it not art, the way your pencil swoops in all sorts of different loops- the way no one else’s does?
The Creative Process
Art by Deena Danielle • January 18, 2020 I’ve sat down to write this three or four times. Nothing came to me. Creative block is an awful feeling. I strive to provide value in everything I create whether it’s writing, photography or design. Lately, I’ve been feeling like there’s not more to express for fear of redundancy. Logically, I know this is a myth, but I can’t shake being stuck and uninspired. Visits from the muse are spontaneous. In my previous experience inspiration had never been constant.

Where does one find joy? When I think about my happiest moments, some include lying under the starry summer night skies, learning to dance bachata on the streets of Miami, chats with friends over a drink in a local coffee shop, or hikes in Los Angeles. I find joy in creating something out of boredom, in noticing beautiful patterns on a dress, or morning light coming in through a window. These little quiet moments allow for time to think, breathe, reset, and to clearly decide next steps of action.

Thrifting in Prague - Nomad Moda
I was in Prague over the weekend visiting my cousin. The weather was mostly rainy, but Prague is always so beautiful and peaceful to me. My cousin is a musician so I was surrounded by live music during the time that I was there. There is a tea house in Prague that she and her friends frequent, for ginger teas and wine, and where they also perform. It was lovely to catch up and meet her clan. I stopped by a thrift shop called Textile House where I bought the black sheer top I’m wearing here.
