These Pirates are only missing one thing
PITTSBURGH -- These Pirates can do a lot of terrific things, but this bullpen's going to bury them before it can matter, writes Dejan Kovacevic of DK Pittsburgh Sports.
Pity? Nah, a party!
PITTSBURGH -- How DK Pittsburgh Sports, the pioneering independent media outlet, came to be in 2014 without an expected loan and without much beyond ... a beautiful launch.
'The greatest risk'
This is the fourth of a five-part series on how DK Pittsburgh Sports forever changed the media industry, with a hard focus on how and why we decided to try this thing that hadn't previously been t

21 Takes: How could all this offense whiff on playoffs?
PITTSBURGH -- The Pirates are now tied for No. 1 in runs spanning Major League Baseball, so how could they conceivably miss the playoffs?
What should .500-ish Pirates do at deadline?
PITTSBURGH -- Should Ben Cherington's young Pirates, a game over .500, be buyers or sellers at Major League Baseball's trade deadline?
Kyle Dubas' 'boring-brick' plan perfect for Penguins
PITTSBURGH -- Kyle Dubas' self-style 'brick-by-boring-brick' plan for the Penguins sounds perfect, writes veteran Pittsburgh journalist Dejan Kovacevic.
DK's Breakdown: Is this bullpen (finally) beginning to dig out?
PITTSBURGH -- If the 2026 Major League Baseball season had ended Tuesday evening, soon after the Pirates' 3-2 loss to the Mariners here at PNC Park, that'd represent an epic failure for a baseball operations department that's now halfway into Year 7.
With Mario Lemieux, Sidney Crosby, winning's always first
PITTSBURGH -- I believe in Mario Lemieux. I believe in Sidney Crosby. Couple of bold stances there, huh? But no, it's real. I've been blessed to know both for decades now, and I believe in both, as iconic performers, as incredible people and, of course, as perpetual winners in all walks of life.
On the Steelers' brutally botched NFL Draft process
Two statements I believe are totally true: 1. Max Iheanachor might well wind up a wonderful prospect for the Steelers. 2. My God, they brutally botched the process of selecting their first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and this on the grandest possible local stage right here in front of 300,000-plus football fans packed onto our North Shore and Downtown on this otherwise thrilling Thursday night. Think about it from both perspectives, as if they're on parallel tracks.
For all that's new for Pirates, this Oneil Cruz stuff's so old
I'm tired of Oneil Cruz's mistakes. I'm far, far, far more tired of how he's forever been babied. And, to be further blunt, I can't fathom how anyone still sees that as the best approach. First inning, first game: VIDEO Sure, that's a challenge for a center fielder. It's a straightaway scorcher off the bat of Brett Baty and, from that direct an angle, the trajectory's a difficult read.
