Della Kilroy is an award-winning broadcast journalist working with RTE, Ireland's public service broadcaster. Her international reporting has included topics covering drug-trafficking in Colombia, life for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, climate change in Malawi, conditions for Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan, gender-based violence in Haiti and a series documenting the journey refugees take fleeing Libya across the Mediterranean Sea.
In May 2017 Della presented 'UPFRONT', a two-part series examining the impact of domestic abuse on young women. In 2018 Della presented an hour-long television documentary examining access to youth mental health services. This gained critical acclaim nationally.
In 2012 Della was awarded a Justice Media Award for her coverage of high court repossession cases and in 2018 she won a silver trophy in the international New York Festivals Radio Awards in the 'Best Special Report' category for her series 'Libyan Survival - Refugees Rescued from Sea.' Her radio documentaries for RTE One include 'Leaving Care,' documenting life for eighteen-year-olds leaving state care, and 'Under the Mango Tree', documenting a community living with the aftermath of child soldier abduction in DR Congo.
Della was formally a Senior News Journalist with Storyful, the first news agency of the social media age. For eight years she found and verified newsworthy video content for global news clients. Della produced and presented the award-nominated Storyful podcast, addressing issues around journalism and news coverage. She has reported live on television for TV3 and RTE and has written for national publications including the Sunday Business Post.
Della regularly lectures on degree courses in modules on online journalism and news reporting.
Della holds an Honors degree in English, Media and Cultural Studies and has a First Class Masters in Broadcast Production for Radio and Television.
