5 Questions with Ty Segall
Ty Segall has become so frequently associated with the revival of garage rock that it can be difficult to remember that he’s his own person. After starting his solo career over 20 years ago, he’s put out more music than Genghis Khan spawned children; his solo releases are too heavy to carry with two arms, and at the same time, his resumé includes tenures with about a dozen bands and collaborations with, well, why are we even bothering to quantify his output anymore? You get the drift.
Ty Segall: Life in the California Hills
Ahead of the release of his latest project Hello, Hi, Segall tells us how life in Topanga stacks up against the time he spent building a cult following within San Francisco’s garage rock scene. This article appears in FLOOD 12: The Los Angeles Issue. You can purchase this special 232-page print edition celebrating the people, places, music and art of LA here. “LA is like a bottomless well of everything—scenes and music and culture,” says Ty Segall.

Today he gives us a sneak peak of one of them called 'Ice Plant'. “‘Ice Plant’ is a fever dream reflection of my childhood. . . A past no more. Was very fun to sing with the amazing Shannon Lay,” comments Segall.
Track Of The Day: Shannon Lay challenges us to accept life's difficulties with 'Death Up Close'
Californian folk-ish artist Shannon Lay is on the build up to the release of her new album August on August 23rd - it'll be her first for Sub Pop. Today she shares the album's opening track 'Death Up Close', which she introduces by saying: "With that song, I wanted to recognise that everyone else is going through something and reflect on that. Don’t be so close-minded to think you’re the only one who’s got issues, in fact, find comfort in the thought that everyone is on their own journey.
Ty Segall gives us a 'Taste' of what's next with the first song from his new album
If you thought that the recent release of a live album and the announcement of some residencies playing old albums meant that Ty Segall would be slowing down on producing new material - think again. The Bay Area rocker continues to churn out the gold, and this summer he will release a new album called First Taste. It comes out through Drag City on August 2nd. Along with the announcement, Ty has shared the (semi-) title track 'Taste', a typically frenetic rocker jam-packed with power pop hooks.
