Casio MRW-230H: Affordable Perfection
I stumbled across this little plastic fantastic at Walmart today. I thought it looked quite nice in photos and videos, but let me tell you, I was not prepared for how attractive and harmonious the design is in person. The venerable 200H that this ostensibly replaces has always been a great concept: a three-hander with day/date complication, rotating bezel, and 100 meters of water resistance for around the price of lunch. But I just never quite liked the looks of it.
Casio MRW-230H acquired!

Celebrating 8 years with my 103
There's nothing special about the number 8. I was just struck that it's been that many years, since it still feels like 2 or 3. I never did get around to finishing my pilot's license, but I wanted to pay homage to this chronograph's intended purpose and the origin of the company. So to put together this celebratory still life photo, I dug out my old pilot's logbook and threw in my Ray-Ban aviators. For a bit of cheeky humor I included my Pilot E95S fountain pen.
Just Another Easy Reader Convert
The Timex anniversary edition is my favorite. It honestly feels so nice, very affordable and comfortable. Easy to set the time and just go and the indiglo is a huge plus. I would compare this experience of switching to a Timex easy reader to living in New York City all your life and then spending some time in the country side in Europe. Change of pace to simpler times.
Q Timex on a Speidel Twist-O-Flex: A Winning Combo
It doesn't get more classic than this: an elegant three-hander with date on an expansion bracelet. This Q Timex 35mm was a gift from my spouse a few years back. It came on a simple black strap, which was perfectly adequate; but I took one look at this watch and knew that its true home was on a Speidel. For those of you who haven't worn a Twist-O-Flex, it's far more comfortable than the expansion bands Timex includes with their Easy Readers (I own one of those too).
Well, it was new when I got it nearly 2 years ago. But I've been off the forums for a while, and this remains my most recent acquisition. So I'm sharing it with you now! This is a watch I had coveted for quite some time. I had long planned on buying it for myself, but then a dear friend gifted it to me when I graduated with my doctorate. I was dumbfounded! It's even more beautiful in person than I thought it would be.
What is your acceptable accuracy on a quartz?
I bought the Casio Duro and now it's on week three of it's "accuracy acceptance". If it's over a second a week off, it's going back. So far, it looks good. All our watches, about 30 between us, are quartz and all but one are 5 seconds or less a month. Even my wife's very old fashion watches (Avon) manage to stay under 8 seconds a month. Two newer ones think they are Atomic time pieces and stay within a second a month. One of them is a Citiizen Tough. So.....my question....
Does Sinn have major QC issues?
#2 · I was going to go ahead and purchase a new U1 but began reading on all the QC issues. Do you guys think it is on par with other companies charging equal amount for their products? Thanks. Anecdotally I feel like they have the fewest or near the bottom in this price range. You'll always find a wart if you go looking for one. Even in the big leagues.
Let's Hear it for the Casio W-800H!
Looks nice in the photos. Not so nice when you see it in real life. I liked the clear crystal of it and that's all i liked. The watch is silly thick and looks big and boring. The viewing angle of the lcd is limited. This makes the watch look even cheaper. Clearly i prefer the f91 over it. I also tried the countdown hack. Worked for a week but then the watch started to randomly reset the time and the lcd started to blink every second. I will not try to fix it. It is garbage.
Marathon Navigator, Size and Wear?
Hey folks, I'm interested in the Navigator, but having trouble predicting how it might wear. My wrist is 7.25 inches, but I tend to prefer smaller watches. 41mm is definitely wearable for me if the profile is correct, and I suspect it looks a little larger in photos than in person, and that the dial is relatively small compared to the case width. Would any Navigator owners care to comment, and perhaps share a wrist shot? Thanks for any help!
Morning Coffee
The 103 wishes you all a fine morning. Cheers!
Just Arrived: Timex Expedition Scout 36mm
Discussion Starter • #1 • a moment ago It looks a little bigger than the 37mm Expedition I've been wearing a few months, owing to the greater dial diameter. That's neither a plus nor minus for me, but thought I should mention it. Comparison photo below. The two-piece nylon strap is stiff as it could be. I expect it to break in a bit, of course. The date window is small, and while not color matched, dark enough in tone to blend in with the green dial.
Looking for My First Analog G
Discussion Starter • #1 • a moment ago Hey Friends, I'm really loving my first G (the bare bones 5600) and thinking about adding an analog as the next step in the collection. One of the things I like so much about the 5600 is that it's clean, functional, and flies under the radar. Lots of the analog Gs have that really busy Transformers look (no offense intended if that's your style). The GA-800 seems like the clearest and least cluttered.
