Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
Sports reporter for a small daily newspaper in rural North Carolina.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes, columnist and photo editor.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Hard to pick, but my 2021 series Ancient Alabama stands out as a unique educational series where I got to show more voice and personality.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Any pitch that ignores who my audience is and what kind of stories I write.
