A guide to designing and shipping AI developer tools
After three-plus years of concepting, designing, and shipping AI-driven developer tools, GitHub is continuing to explore new ways to bring powerful AI models into the developer workflow. Along the way, we’ve learned that the most important aspect of designing AI-driven products is to focus extensively on the developer experience (DevEx).
Make your GitHub projects more accessible with accessibility-alt-text-bot
We are excited to announce that we have open sourced the accessibility-alt-text-bot–a GitHub Action that supports accessible image sharing in GitHub Issues, GitHub Discussions, and GitHub Pull Requests. The accessibility-alt-text-bot leaves automated reminders in a comment when a user shares an image without providing meaningful alt text. What is alt text? Alt text, short for alternative text, is code associated with an image that describes an image’s intent.
GitHub celebrates developers with disabilities on Global Accessibility Awareness Day
At GitHub, our favorite people are developers. We love to make them happy and productive, and today, on Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we want to celebrate their achievements by sharing some great stories about a few developers with disabilities alongside news of recent accessibility improvements at GitHub that help them do the best work of their lives.
Design's journey towards accessibility
As a design organization we have the opportunity to make a significant impact on making GitHub inclusive for all developers. Designing complex interactions for users with a wide range of abilities is challenging. It’s easy to fall into traps where checks pass but the resulting experience isn’t actually a good experience for anyone, including those with disabilities. We are early on our path to accessibility, but we’ve also come a long way.
How we’re continuing to enable all developers to build
GitHub aims to be the home for all developers and we know that it is a great privilege and responsibility to make this a reality. We want to ensure that all developers have the opportunity to contribute to open source and use the GitHub platform for personal projects and at work—no matter their physical or cognitive ability. This is important work and we’ve been growing the team dedicated to making GitHub more accessible for developers all over the world.
