Interview
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yup! My first few articles were created on a typewriter. Learned to use it in high school.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
By editors who are assigning the story to me... which is how all my articles have come about!
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Not my newspaper, but I was an editor of my high school yearbook.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Learn to research, fact check, pronounce names correctly, and alphabetize! Also, stop using the word "aspiring"!
What's the best pitch you ever got?
From my JazzTimes editor: "How'd you like to take a little trip?" It ended up being to cover the Barbados Jazz Festival!
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Crain's New York Business
