Proofreading for a boating publication in Marina del Rey, CA.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
In university, we had to do drills on old, old typewriters. I think it was more about type speed and thinking on your feet.
How is social media changing news?
It's of course getting it there faster and it's giving tips that can be developed.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Jane Craig, the character Holly Hunter played in Broadcast news. She could be stressed, intense, smart and yet vulnerable.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It's a career journey and it means different things at different times. Performing the task is easy, Hollywood, not so much.

Honestly, there are so many.

Entertainment editors looking for new blood, i.e. experienced reporters in a niche who have good contacts.
Why did you become a journalist?
Practical: Wanted to write and get paid for it, get some recognition (through a byline), and I eventually do entertainment journalism.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
In junior high I covered everything for our newspaper. In high school, I worked on the yearbook staff and publicity staff.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
A feature on why people have favorite bars.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Stay up with technology, like people, know history, network, network, network, faith.
