Friday Fantasy Notebook - Nov. 6, 2026
Friday Fantasy Notebook - Nov. 6, 2026 The weekend is coming. Who's hot, who's not, and who's ready to make noise? The Friday Fantasy Notebook recaps the week's biggest developments and sets the stage for the weekend's must-watch players, matchups and storylines. Buffalo Sabres Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen had a strong start in L.A. (.931 SP) but that's been the exception in what has been a tough season (3.40 GAA, .874 SP).

He took a shutout to the third period against the Sens before losing 2-1 (38 saves, .933 SP) and won both of his previous starts, including a 23-save shutout in San Jose. It’s a tough schedule ahead with home dates against the Knights and Lightning, but going forward there’s a chance Ellis takes over the starting job. The Sabres had been looking to upgrade in net since at least the summer when they were reportedly in the running for Connor Hellebuyck.
NHL Power Rankings: Trade Requests Threatening To Change The Balance Of Power
Another week in the NHL has come and gone, meaning it's time for Jason Chen to share his updated Power Rankings for all 32 teams.
A multilevel intervention to improve adherence to prostate cancer active surveillance versus usual care: results from a pilot randomized controlled trial.
Active surveillance is the primary management strategy for men with low-risk prostate cancer and yet, adherence to active surveillance remains suboptimal. Men choose to receive surgery or radiation therapy even without any evidence of their cancer progressing or because of anxiety. Novel interventions to improve adherence are needed.

If Gritsyuk keeps this up, this might be your last chance to pick up the shifty, talented winger. He’s been one of the most popular pickups in fantasy after I highlighted him last week, and his play keeps trending up to the point where he could very much be worth rostering for the rest of the season. He scored two goals in Vegas on Friday and playing L1 and PP2. There’s a chance he might displace Luke Evangelista on PP1 later on in the season.

I can't recall a season where so many elite players have requested trades. Nikita Kucherov is the latest to join the crowd when it was reported Friday he was not re-signing with the Lightning and requested a trade.
Friday Fantasy Notebook - Oct. 30, 2026
We can safely assume that Dylan Larkin has played his last game as a Detroit Red Wing, drawing his tenure to a bitter end after a fairy-tale beginning when the Michigan-born, Michigan Wolverine product was drafted 15th overall in 2014 by his home team. I do think he made a concerted effort during his 10-game return where he scored six points and registered 32 shots and won 53.4 percent of his faceoffs, but this is the second time the Wings' former captain has publicly quit on his team.
NHL Power Rankings: Devils Rapidly Rise After Hellebuyck Blockbuster, Golden Knights And Rangers Slide
The first month of the 2026-27 NHL season is nearly complete, and Connor Hellebuyck's trade to the New Jersey Devils has led to some massive changes around Jason Chen's weekly power rankings.
NHL Power Rankings: Devils Rapidly Rise After Hellebuyck Blockbuster, Golden Knights And Rangers Slide
Blockbuster trades that cause seismic shifts across the landscape of the NHL don't happen often, let alone in the first month of the season. The Winnipeg Jets and Connor Hellebucyk ended a month-long stand-off and made a deal with the New Jersey Devils, who acquired potentially the best goalie in the league and shifted the balance of power in the Metro.
Fantasy Hockey Who's Hot, Who's Not: Michkov And Martone Heating Up For Flyers
After scoring just two goals in his first eight games, Michkov is now on a five-game point streak, and Martone has scored four of his five points this season in his past four games. The two young wingers have found their offensive groove with thanks to the Flyers' power play, which went 3-for-12 in two games against the Buffalo Sabres and Anaheim Ducks. Roslovic has scored 20 goals in consecutive seasons but never scored more than 22 goals or 45 points over his 10-year career.
Fantasy Hockey Who's Hot, Who's Not: Michkov And Martone Heating Up For Flyers
The fantasy hockey season is well underway and it's time to recap which players are heating up and who has performed well below expectations. After the Philadelphia Flyers' rough start, two youngsters in Matvei Michkov and Porter Martone have strung together some solid performances as they try to salvage their season. Meanwhile, Anaheim Ducks sniper Cutter Gauthier's goal drought continues to hurt his fantasy value.

2026-27 NHL Fantasy Hockey Week 5 Primer And Pickups
In case you live under a rock, the Jets ended a month-long saga and traded Connor Hellebuyck to the Devils on Friday upon the conclusion of his suspension and before Sunday's Heritage Classic. The trade puts the Devils in a good position to be the second-best team in a relatively weak Metro behind the Hurricanes, and the Jets can move forward without any distractions and seem committed to having Stuart Skinner be their No. 1 for the foreseeable future.

Connor Hellebuyck’s blockbuster trade to the Devils reshapes the fantasy landscape. Charle-Edouard D'Astous and John Carlson battle on the Lightning PP1. Navigate a volatile Week 5 schedule with strategic streaming targets to stay ahead.

You’ll have heard by now that Black is really tall – 6-foot-9, the tallest goalie in history – but it also tells us nothing about his ability to stop the puck. With no back-to-backs until Nov. 7-8, I suspect Akira Schmid (24% rostered) will get the bulk of the starts, if not all of them. The Panthers have been outscored 9-1 in their past two games, but they’re still an elite team.

The Friday Fantasy Notebook recaps the week's biggest developments and sets the stage for the weekend's must-watch players, matchups and storylines. Edmonton Oilers Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (49% rostered) had a very strong season debut, scoring a power-play goal in Vasily Podkolzin's spot on PP1 and scored the shootout winner while centering the second line.

The defending champion Hurricanes are the top team in the league by default, and they rank first in this week's power rankings, but it feels like there are a lot of teams in the mix this season for the Stanley Cup. It's still early in the season so the standings are cramped – the top eight teams are separated by just three points – but there are no shortage of teams that could really be considered contenders.

Rarely do I focus on one specific player in the intro, but Ithink Connor Hellebuyck deserves an exception. On Saturday, Sportsnet's ElliotteFriedman reported Hellebuyck's suspension by the Jets for not participatingin training camp due to a trade request ends this coming Friday, Oct. 23.

On the surface, not a good game against the Mammoth for Devon Levi with three goals allowed on 23 shots (.870), snapping Levi and the Oilers’ winning streak. But what chance did Levi have on any of those goals?

Tuesday's Frozen Frenzy was the unofficial holiday of the NHL with all 32 teams in action. It just doesn't happen very often; we won't see this again until the last day of the regular season on April 10. We've also now gotten enough a good look at every team, though expect plenty of movement until things start to settle down a little bit. Whether it's due to the short pre-season or not, there have been some truly chaotic games.
Fantasy Hockey Who's Hot, Who's Not: Matthews, Nylander Lift The Maple Leafs, Panthers Stars Struggle
It's been a rocky start but this is a great sign for a team that was very pedestrian offensively, ranking 16th in goals per-game last season. Matthews, in particular, has looked as good as he's been in quite some time, needing just six games to score 10 points this season; last season, it took him 13 games. With Igor Shesterkin out for the year, and Joonas Korpisalo and Spencer Martin still on the shelf, the Rangers have little choice but to turn to their 24-year-old rookie.

The fantasy hockey season is well underway and it's time to recap which players are heating up and who has performed well below expectations. The Toronto Maple Leafs got a huge boost from their top players that have caused their fantasy values to skyrocket early in the season. Meanwhile, some big-name players from the Dallas Stars and Florida Panthers have been ice cold to kick off the year, causing some potential concerns for the long-term outlook of their fantasy season.

Injuries, man. You wonder if the shortened pre-season and camp had anythingto do with it, or maybe we're just having a really unlucky year. Igor Shesterkin left Friday's game after jamming his rightleg into the post, and the following day the Rangers announced he was done forthe season. It's a huge punch in the gut when a team loses their startinggoaltender, especially when they're off to a great start and sitting first inthe East with eight points heading into the weekend.

When it comes to defensemen in fantasy, especially those that don’t play on the power play, overall ice time matters. The logic is the longer you’re on the ice, the more opportunities you will have to block shots or lay out hits. That brings us to Tristan Luneau (8% rostered), who ranks 13th in the league with 25:02 TOI/GP with one assist and seven blocks in three games this season.

2026-27 NHL Fantasy Hockey Week 2 Primer And Pickups
What a wild first week. Whether it's the shortened preseasonor just the earlier-than-usual start, there's been a few teams that look likethey're half asleep. We've had some really high-scoring games, and that's prettytypical; expect the amount of goals scored to dip as we progress through theseason as teams iron out their systems and players get into a groove. Butwhat's most important is we've now got some info on every team.

You can't win in fantasy hockey without taking some big swings, or at least identifying the players that everyone seems to overlook. Last season, Will Smith and Leo Carlsson were among some of the top sleeper picks in the NHL, and fantasy managers who gambled on them reaped huge dividends, especially in keeper leagues. Which players this season are getting overlooked because they're coming off poor seasons, getting lost in the shuffle or simply playing on a team nobody expects to do well?

Can he do it again? That's the key question when any NHL player outperforms their expectations. Those are some of the biggest questions fantasy managers ask themselves.
