Why do people watch films?

With the development of the film industry, modern cinema is not the least important thing in people's lives. Millions of people watch films every day without ever asking why they do so. But it's a very interesting question - why do people watch films? What do they find in this fictional reality that puts them in a good mood, makes them empathise or think about the meaning of life?

An interesting, good film is to a large extent a positive emotion. Every day a busy working person is immersed into the society where he has to solve everyday problems, to complete certain tasks and to face problems of social or personal nature. This has a special effect on our perception of the real world. In addition, not everyone is always able to achieve their goals - dreams remain dreams, unfulfilled desires, fatigue, irritation and, at times, frustration build up and grow like a snowball.

What can you do in that situation when you have no desire, not only to go out and talk to your friends, but even just to move? Surely to watch a good film, get distracted and relax for a while, forgetting about your personal worries.

What does watching a film give you?

Different genres of movies give you different emotions:

  • Comedy allows you to laugh heartily and lift your spirits;
  • Drama and melodrama teach you to empathise with others;
  • Horror films give a necessary dose of adrenaline;
  • Fiction and action movies make you feel strong and able to cope with any challenge;
  • Historical, biographical and popular-scientific films broaden your horizons and make you feel a little more intelligent and erudite than before watching the film.

One can enumerate endlessly what each film can give to a person, but the fact is that by "getting into" a fictional world, another reality invented by the writers and directors, a person no longer perceives the real world only in a black light.

Watching an exciting movie, personal problems recede into the background, and some films even give you an impetus or understanding of how to cope with this or that problem in life. The viewer sees a plot on the screen where the main character, even if at the beginning of the film he was at rock bottom, by the denouement successfully solves all his problems. Trying this image on himself, anyone who is overburdened and frustrated by failures understands that not everything is as bad as it seems at first glance. And 'film therapy' is just one of a list of reasons why people watch and love to watch films.
