Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
I worked as a news reporter at the Lane Community College student-run newspaper, The Torch, in 2016.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I never have!
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter.
Why did you become a journalist?
I became a journalist so that I could always continue learning about people and the world. It helps me feel alive.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did not.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I'm most proud of the work I've done within the recovery community it Eugene.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Get in the habit of writing every day and always remain curious. A journalist is never the most interesting person in the room.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
I received a pitch about church. The student writer wanted to promote her church that she went too.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
I'm most likely outside hiking or climbing; or inside with my head buried in a book of fiction. Something you haven't heard of.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
LA Times or New Yorker
