Clustering-derived clinical subtypes and outcomes of chronic kidney disease in patients with diabetes: a multicenter cohort study
Abstract Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) with diabetes is a heterogeneous condition with multiple underlying causes. However, no classification system appropriately captures the diversity of patients with CKD and diabetes or provides prognostic insights. Methods: We included 11,925 patients with CKD and diabetes from the Multicenter Cohort of Diabetic Kidney Disease Study (MEET-DKD) between 2000–2023.
Beyond words: the association of hugging with loneliness, social isolation, and social withdrawal. Evidence from the general adult population in Germany based on a cross-sectional survey
Abstract Background: Thus far, no studies have focused on hugging and social disconnectedness outcomes comprehensively (loneliness, social isolation, social withdrawal) in the post-pandemic era. Our aim was to examine whether hugging is associated with loneliness, social isolation, and social withdrawal and whether these associations vary by gender. Methods: We used cross-sectional data collected via an online survey conducted in January 2025 (N = 3,270 adults aged 18 to 74 years across Germany).
Effects of photobiomodulation on multiple health outcomes: an umbrella review of randomized clinical trials - Systematic Reviews
We aimed to suggest evidence-based recommendations and insights into PBM for clinicians and patients. To our knowledge, this umbrella review represents the first comprehensive evaluation of PBM effects on several health outcomes, analyzing data from 15 meta-analyses of RCTs with over 9000 patients and assessing the evidence using GRADE criteria.
Reducing the burden of pediatric anemia in low-socio-demographic index countries in Asia: the need for targeted support and public health policies - World Journal of Pediatrics
Anemia remains a major global public health issue, affecting about 24.3% of the global population [1]. Its importance is underscored by its inclusion in the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to halve the prevalence of anemia among women of reproductive age by 2030 [2].
Association of using AI tools for personal conversation with social disconnectedness outcomes - Journal of Public Health
Abstract To examine the association of using AI tools exclusively for personal conversation with loneliness and perceived social isolation and social withdrawal. We used data from a quota-based online sample consisting of 3270 individuals reflecting the general adult population in Germany aged 18 to 74 years. Psychometrically sound tools were used to quantify the outcomes.
Signal detection between 5-alpha reductase inhibitors and the risk of suicidality and depression: an international pharmacovigilance analysis - European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology
Abstract This study aims to investigate the signal detection between the use of finasteride and dutasteride and the occurrence of suicidality, including suicidal ideation, attempts, and completed suicide, as well as the development of depression. This study utilized data from a global pharmacovigilance database encompassing over 35 million adverse event reports from more than 140 countries.
Unclean cooking fuel use and sleep problems among adults aged 65 years and older from six countries
We investigated the association between unclean cooking fuel use and sleep problems in a nationally representative sample of adults aged ≥65 years from six low- and middle-income countries (China, Ghana, India, Mexico, Russia, South Africa). Cross-sectional, community-based data from the WHO Study on global AGEing and adult health (SAGE) were analyzed. Unclean cooking fuel referred to kerosene/paraffin, coal/charcoal, wood, agriculture/crop, animal dung, and shrubs/grass.
Identification of Metabolic Patterns in Korean Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and their Association with Diabetes-Related Complications
Resolving metabolic heterogeneity in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) gives them access to precision medicine. Despite ethnic diversity in pathophysiological processes in individuals with T2DM, studies on subtypes of diabetes related to clinical characteristics in Asians are insufficient. This study aims to identify metabolic patterns in middle-aged patients with T2DM in Republic of Korea (Korea) and determine the incidence of diabetes-related complications according to patterns.
Psychosocial alterations during the COVID-19 pandemic and the global burden of anxiety and major depressive disorders in adolescents, 1990-2021: challenges in mental health amid socioeconomic disparities | World Journal of Pediatrics
Abstract The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, a global health crisis, profoundly impacted all aspects of daily life. Adolescence, a pivotal stage of psychological and social development, is heavily influenced by the psychosocial and socio-cultural context. Hence, it is imperative to thoroughly understand the psychosocial changes adolescents experienced during the pandemic and implement effective management initiatives.
The impact of hospital saturation on non-COVID-19 hospital mortality during the pandemic in France: a national population-based cohort study - BMC Public Health
In this nationwide population-based cohort study, we used data from the Programme de Médicalisation des Systèmes d’Information (PMSI database), the French national hospital database in which administrative and medical data are systematically collected for acute (PMSI-MCO) care. The healthcare landscape in France encompasses a total of 3,008 establishments: 1,354 of these are public hospitals, while 1,654 are private hospitals [19].
Poverty and inequality in real-world schizophrenia: a national study
Introduction The 100% coverage health insurance system in France was established in 1945 after World War II to eliminate the disparities in healthcare access stemming from financial inequalities. “Inequities” refer to disparities in access to healthcare services and variations in health outcomes among patients with schizophrenia. As of now, the evidence supporting the effectiveness of social protection policies in addressing health inequalities remains limited.
Tumor microbiome analysis provides prognostic value for patients with stage III colorectal cancer
1 Introduction Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Compared with the 2020 estimates, the global burden of CRC is predicted to increase by 63% in 2040 (1). Moreover, the incidence of early-onset CRC (before age 50 years) is increasing in high-income countries (2).

Quantification of identifying cognitive impairment using olfactory-stimulated functional near-infrared spectroscopy with machine learning: a post hoc analysis of a diagnostic trial and validation of an external additional trial (pdf) | Paperity
Alzheimer's Research & Therapy, Jul 2023 We aimed to quantify the identification of mild cognitive impairment and/or Alzheimer’s disease using olfactory-stimulated functional near-infrared spectroscopy using machine learning through a post hoc analysis of a previous diagnostic trial and an external additional trial.
Quantification of identifying cognitive impairment using olfactory-stimulated functional near-infrared spectroscopy with machine learning: a post hoc analysis of a diagnostic trial and validation of an external additional trial | Alzheimer's Research & Th
Main findings Through two independent trials, we found that machine learning models using olfactory-stimulated oxygenation differences in the orbitofrontal cortex were superior in diagnosing MCI and AD dementia compared to the classic statistical model. In this study, we presented two machine learning models for the classification of MCI-AD dementia and CN and for the classification of MCI and CN. Our models used an ensemble approach to combine state-of-the-art models.
