Carbon Management Society’s Post
Carbon Management Society’s Post Carbon Management Society - Free Webinar - June 15 Synthetic fuels are crucial for tackling climate change: meeting the need for energy-dense fuels capable of powering aeroplanes, rockets and ships over long distances. Technically-viable pathways from low-carbon hydrogen and biogenic or atmospheric carbon dioxide have been demonstrated to produce fuels such as methanol, ammonia and synthetic hydrocarbons.
Tariffs are breaking the one thing markets need to survive: Trust | illuminem
It often begins with bold declarations - “We must protect our industries,” they say. “Our workers deserve better.” The public nods along. Tariffs, once again, are wielded as a political tool, dressed in the noble language of national interest and economic revival. But as always, beneath the surface of this populist packaging lies a complex ripple effect - one that is increasingly visible in the movement of government bond yields and the uneasy mood settling over financial markets.
Jevons' paradox and the future of AI infrastructure: a misapplied economic theory?
Illuminem Voices Corporate Governance · Ethical Governance · ESG Jevons' paradox, first described by 19th-century economist William Stanley Jevons, states that as technology enhances efficiency, the overall consumption of a resource may increase rather than decrease. Jevons witnessed this during the Industrial Revolution: more efficient steam engines lowered the cost of coal-based energy and led to greater overall demand, rather than conservation.
The European Green Deal. Upsides and downsides
The European Green Deal (EGD), introduced by the European Commission in 2019, stands as a monumental initiative in Europe’s journey toward a more sustainable future. In its ambition, it envisions an entirely new economic and environmental framework—one that seeks to make the European Union the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. The Green Deal aims not only to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also to transform the way Europeans live, work, and interact with the natural world.
Global carbon pricing versus emissions trading systems: a head-to-head comparison
Carbon pricing mechanisms, including global carbon pricing (GCP)and emissions trading systems (ETS), are essential tools for incentivizing emissions reductions and combating climate change. Both approaches aim to internalize the social costs of carbon emissions and drive the transition to a low-carbon economy. However, they differ in their design, implementation, and potential impacts.

Your Guide To Open Innovation
Simply put, innovation is the creation of a viable offering. Its value construct requires identifying the problems that matter and moving through them systematically to deliver elegant solutions. Innovation is seen and felt not only at the product or services level but in the firm’s supply chain, processes, and its ability to promote learning and transfer of knowledge.
C-suite agenda: a new paradigm for workforce
The marketplace is changing, for both business owners and those seeking employment. The rise of high-velocity markets and an increase in global mobility has led to a unique set of challenges. The high-velocity markets are those markets that experience a number of characteristics such as: frequent launches of new competitive moves, entry of important new rivals, rapid-fire technological changes, short product life cycles and rapidly evolving customers-expectations.
What do you need for a successful blended workforce strategy?
The “expertise on-demand” marketplaces. The competition for talent is changing at a speed that we have not predicted. If you are a small or medium enterprise (SME), the traditional way of attracting talent was that you hired the best applicant who responded to your ad.
Is Porter's model still valid in today’s high velocity markets?
In the strategic management field, the scholars agree upon dividing strategy frameworks into three main classes (or paradigms). A fourth paradigm called dynamic capabilities was accepted later as an extension of the resource based-view. They are: Competitive forces (~Porter) Strategic Conflict Resource based-view (RBV) and Dynamic capabilities Based on Porter model, most of today’s hi-tech firms (from Amazon to Gilead Sciences) would not be able to penetrate the market. So what made it possible?
CEOWORLD magazine
I noticed recently a predilection for using the words “digital innovation” and “digital transformation” interchangeably and synonymously, sometimes in the same paragraph. The misuse creeps into companies’ Annual Reports which makes it quite confusing for people to understand where the company is, on the evolutionary scale. So let us attempt to clarify the difference and go a bit beyond that as well: Innovation(s) and transformation(s), digital or otherwise, are two separate things.
The first 100 days in the life of a CEO
Let me be clear from the onset: the 100 days mark is an arbitrary timestamp and so, it does not represent a finish line for what the CEO is meant to achieve at the helm of the company. How would you see your first 100 days as a CEO? You were asked this very question (or a variation of it) at the final Board interview and judging by the fact that you got the job, it is fair to assume that the Board was content with your answer.
