Dorien Minor’s Biography
Dorien Minor is a broadcast meteorologist at Live 5 News (WCSC) based in Charleston, South Carolina. As of May 2023, Dorien is a graduate of Georgia Tech's five-year BS/MS program in the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences with a concentration in meteorology, and has academic interests in tropical weather, numerical weather prediction, climate dynamics and science communication. Dorien is an active member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and previously served as a two-term President of Georgia Tech’s AMS Student Chapter, StORM Club.
Dorien was a member of the Georgia Tech WxChallenge team, in which he was the top underclassman forecaster overall in the 2019-2020 season and placed amongst the top 10 upperclassman forecasters nationally during the 2020-2021 season. At Georgia Tech, Dorien was also a member of the National Society of Black Engineers, African American Student Union, and the Association for Environmental Engineers and Scientists.
For as long as he could remember, Dorien has always wanted to be a meteorologist who used his resources, research and reverence to develop an innovative and revolutionary approach to the study of the changing atmosphere. Dorien wants to continue to make a difference not only in his community, but also in the world.
As a broadcast meteorologist since June 2023, Dorien has covered a plethora of severe weather and winter events, including wall-to-wall coverage on tornadoes and flash flooding caused by Hurricane Idalia, damaging coastal flooding events in Downtown Charleston, and prolonged cold snaps that caused impacts to crops and property in the Southeast. His future aspirations are to begin his own meteorology and STEM-related broadcast network in hopes of teaching other students about the different, vast possibilities about what they can contribute and learn from in STEM.
