How many rental properties do you own?
I had a goal of 30. Then I realized this was the wrong goal. My goal is now income...not how many doors I own. I reset my goal to the amount of income I desire and gauge my success on how close I am to achieving it. That "income" figures is net income...not gross rents, etc. I also have a goal of being debt free in less than 5 years so that the majority of income stays in my pocket vs paying off mortgages. You can have a huge NOI but pay it all out in debt service!

Property management company is deducting late fees from rent instead of collecting
I am dealing with this local property management company for the first time; everything looked great until my tenant stated paying rent five to ten days late every month. The tenant then pays the rent but nothing extra to cover late fees. The property management company deducts the late fees from the rent and counts what is left over as my income and takes their standard 10% from that.

CIRO Decision Highlights Tug-of-War Over Procedural Fairness In Securities Regulatory Enforcement
A recent decision by a hearing panel of the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) illustrates the ongoing tension between securities regulators' efforts to enhance their enforcement powers in administrative proceedings and respondents' corresponding attempts to assert enhanced procedural protections. The decision related to CIRO's nearly four-year delay in bringing formal enforcement proceedings against Darren Carrigan, a CIRO-registered and dealing representative.

Doug McLeod Blog: It feels like a season opener
Yes, the No. 8/10 Golden Gophers hockey team has entered the results of three regular-season games in the books — a win, loss and tie — but because of this year’s screwy early-season schedule it hasn’t really felt like the season has properly begun.

Politics has always been a contact sport, but it seems to be especially rough this election cycle. “Low E” and even less civility appear to be radiating out of several local incumbents’ offices, while the school children of Texas, vital flood control projects, and property tax burdens are not getting enough real action. We, the people, would really appreciate more attention being directed to the genuine issues facing the Gulf Coast and Southeast Texas. My comments are based on experience.

McLeod Blog: An inside look at Gophers vs. Harvard
Key Stats: Minnesota has lost only seven times to Harvard but, frustratingly, several of those losses were in big tournament games. The losses have been spaced out, though. Harvard’s win over UM at the 2016 Mariucci Classic was the Crimson’s first since the 1989 NCAA title tilt at the old St. Paul Civic Center. This is only the fifth game of the season for the Crimson who, like other schools in the Ivy League, start later than the western teams.
McLeod Blog: An inside look at Gophers vs. Michigan State
The Matchup: No. 5 Minnesota Golden Gophers (5-3) vs. Michigan State Spartans (4-2), 3M Arena at Mariucci, Friday night and Saturday afternoon Key Stats: Minnesota’s anemic special teams finally began to click last weekend in the sweep of No. 9 Clarkson. Although still well shy of elite status, the power play has at least broken into double figures (14.6%). The Spartan power play, on the other hand, is off to a smokin’ start, going 8-for-31. Their 25.8 percent conversion rate ranks 17th nationally.
McLeod blog: Gopher hockey insider - Penn State
The Matchup: No. 7 Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. No. 11 Penn State Nittany Lions Key Stats: Together, these teams launched over 130 shots on goal in their first two games. Neither team has sparkled on the power play, often the last piece of the puzzle to fall into place. Minnesota’s is 2 of 11 (18.2 percent), PSU’s 1 of 10 (10 percent). Minnesota is 13-4 all-time against the Nittany Lions, 7-1 at Mariucci since 2014. This is the earliest Big Ten matchup in the league’s five-year history.
McLeod Hockey Blog: Schierhorn to tie Gophers program record on Friday
No active NCAA goalie has started more consecutive games than Minnesota Gophers junior Eric Schierhorn. Friday night, he’s expected to grace the crease for the 78th straight time, tying a school record. Of much more importance, it will signal the start of the No. 11 Golden Gophers’ 2017-18 Big Ten season against No. 11 Penn State – a campaign in which Schierhorn is poised to become one of college hockey’s all-time dominant goalies.
McLeod Hockey Blog: Gophers tabbed to top Big Ten hockey
Big Ten coaches have picked Minnesota to win its fifth conference championship. The preseason poll of head coaches predicts the Golden Gophers will extend their NCAA record streak of consecutive seasons atop a conference to seven, including the last two WCHA crowns. The newest Big Ten contender, Notre Dame, was picked second followed by a resurgent Wisconsin, former newcomer Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan and free-falling Michigan State.
McLeod blog: Incoming Gophers become property of familiar NHL teams
It’s the time of the offseason when University of Minnesota hockey fans sit back and watch the pick of their future stars become the property of National Hockey teams. The 55th NHL Entry Draft in Chicago jumped off Saturday with Casey Mittelstadt, 2017 Minnesota Mr. Hockey, picked eighth overall by the Buffalo Sabres. He became the 20th Golden Gopher drafted in the first round since the league’s modern amateur draft began in 1963.
McLeod blog: Former Gophers Haula, Bischoff head to Las Vegas
When Eric Haula played at the University of Minnesota, he electrified crowds and perplexed defenses with his puck-handling and goal-scoring prowess. That propelled him into the National Hockey League where he played steadily for the Minnesota Wild. Now, Haula is headed for the NHL’s newest playground: Las Vegas. He was selected by the expansion Vegas Golden Knights in the NHL Expansion Draft on Wednesday night.
McLeod Hockey Blog: Gophers name Scott Bell assistant coach

McLeod blog: Gophers make return to North Dakota in October
I’ll save you the trouble as well as any further effort: the Minnesota Gophers will make their much-anticipated return to Grand Forks to play North Dakota on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 20-21. That will be the third weekend of the 2017-18 schedule, which was released Thursday. It will be Minnesota’s first trip to Engelstad Arena since 2012.
McLeod blog: Gophers’ Potulny new head coach at Northern Michigan
Minnesota Gophers assistant coach Grant Potulny is officially a Yooper. Potulny has been named head coach at Northern Michigan University, replacing veteran Walt Kyle. He will be only the third head coach in NMU history. Potulny thus continues a career as a great leader, both on and off the ice. He just completed his eighth season as assistant to Minnesota head coach Don Lucia, including a raft of conference championships, two NCAA Frozen Four appearances and a championship matchup.
McLeod hockey blog: Gophers dealing with offseason losses
The University of Minnesota lost only a dozen games during the 2016-17 season. None was more painful than the 3-2 shortcoming at last weekend’s NCAA Regionals that propelled Notre Dame into the Frozen Four in Chicago and sent the Golden Gophers home.
McLeod hockey blog: Gophers, UMD earn No. 1 regional seeds
The Golden Gophers were named the No. 1 seed in the Northeast. They will face No. 4 seed Notre Dame Saturday in the Northeast Regional this Saturday at 2:30PM CDT. The Fighting Irish, alma mater of Minnesota Head Coach Don Lucia, will enter the Big Ten as a hockey contender next season. “It’s a very good regional, and a great matchup for us to start with against Notre Dame,” Minnesota head coach Don Lucia said. “We know them, and they know us.
Gophers' Tyler Sheehy named top-10 finalist for Hobey Baker Award
Gopher forward Tyler Sheehy has been named one of the top-ten finalists for the 2017 Hobey Baker Award. The only sophomore on the list, Sheehy is the co-scoring champion of the Big Ten and seventh-highest scorer in the nation. He was just named Big Ten Player of the Year. This year’s Hobey Baker field, which also includes Bemidji State’s Michael Bitzer, will be narrowed to the three-player Hobey Hat Trick on March 30.
McLeod blog: Gophers could tangle with Badgers again in Big Ten tourney
The Big Ten hockey tournament could provide yet another opportunity for Minnesota and Wisconsin to bash away at each other. They’ve locked horns four times already this season and split the series at two wins apiece. The conference playoffs begin Thursday at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. The way the brackets are set up, a championship meeting between Goldie and Bucky on Saturday night is a distinct possibility. A few things must happen first. Minnesota is the tournament’s top seed.
