Meanwhile, the rest of the team absorbs the workload of the vacant position. The trouble here isn't the candidates.

“How’s business?” That’s a question I often ask of small-business owners, compelled by my love of talking shop with anyone who will oblige. The answer is usually coated in generic optimism. It is more likely that the answer should be, “Things aren’t going so well.” You’ve probably heard a statistic claiming something like, “Half of all businesses fail.” More accurately, Forbes states 20% of businesses will fail during the first year and 50% will be gone by the fifth year. But why?

Activism After Clicktivism | Q Ideas
For over a decade, revolutionaries and culture jammers have been paralyzed by the computer screen. Trusting the promises of technocrats and digital visionaries, dazzled by the viral hype surrounding MoveOn and the like, we’ve come to rely far too heavily on a particular form of internet organizing. Believing that clicktivism could spark social change, we deployed market-tested messaging, glitzy AJAX websites and social networking apps.
Gameday, Dave Hickman column: Bowen points Jayhawks in right direction

He figures to have an even busier few months while he actively auditions for the job as Kansas’ head football coach. When Bowen showed up for work as the Jayhawks’ defensive coordinator at 7 a.m. Sunday, he was prepared to watch tape of the team’s 23-0 loss to Texas the day before.
WVU tops Terps 40-37 on last-second field goal
AP photo West Virginia quarterback Clint Trickett threw for 511 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Maryland. — West Virginia seemed to spend most of Saturday afternoon’s game with Maryland trying to give it away after running out to a big early lead. In the end, they couldn’t do it. Give it away, that is. Josh Lambert’s 47-yard field goal on the game’s final play gave West Virginia a 40-37 win over Maryland in front of a crowd of 48,154 at Byrd Stadium.
MOUNTAINEER GAMEDAY: Towson visits WVU after upset loss
Prediction: 40-16 … Doesn’t it seem WVU’s last easy win was the Orange Bowl? MORGANTOWN — In order to explain just how Rob Ambrose and his Towson football team felt after laying a big, fat egg in its season opener against Central Connecticut State, the sixth-year head coach elected to equate it to something everyone seems to relate to these days. “A very upsetting ice-bucket challenge,’’ Ambrose said. “The bucket of water got dumped on their head and they didn’t like it too much.
Saban recalls days as Mountaineers fan
Alabama coach Nick Saban grew up in West Virginia as a Mountaineer fan and played sports in Marion County. — Nick Saban has mostly fond memories of growing up in West Virginia and talked about them in general during his weekly press conference Monday. Then again, call it a subconscious glitch perhaps, but when the Alabama coach got down to specifics, it wasn’t a great moment in Mountaineer sports he recalled. It was a heartbreaking one.
Holgorsen: Depth not a problem
Says of veterans: ‘They know what it’s all about’ — As Dana Holgorsen glanced around the cavernous ballroom at the Dallas Omni Hotel Tuesday where his and four other Big 12 teams were going through a 90-minute session with reporters at the league’s annual media days, he couldn’t help but notice one distinct difference.
WVU opponent preview - Alabama
EDITOR’S NOTE: This is the first in a series of previews on West Virginia and Marshall football opponents. Those seasons — 1988, 1993, 2005 and 2006 — are arguably among the most successful in school history, seasons that fans cherish.
Trickett gets the call for WVU
WVU quarterback Clint Trickett throws a pass against Iowa State last year in Morgantown, a game in which he threw for a career-best 356 yards. — Roughly 5 1/2 weeks before it is set to begin, Dana Holgorsen removed much of the suspense from West Virginia’s fall football camp Tuesday. He did so by settling the team’s quarterback battle even before it begins. He named Clint Trickett the team’s starter.
