Dr. Marlow Hernandez’s Biography

Dr. Marlow Hernandez is a physician and healthcare executive who has built his career around improving access and outcomes in value-based care. For more than 15 years, he has designed and led systems serving large patient populations across the United States. His efforts have focused on measurable clinical improvement, responsible growth, and expanding services to communities that often face barriers to care. Through both leadership and direct medical practice, he has maintained a consistent commitment to patient-centered healthcare.

His professional philosophy is summarized in a clear guiding statement: “We do not turn patients away.” This principle has shaped the organizations he has founded and directed. By integrating primary care with specialty services and advanced analytics, he has pursued proactive and personalized treatment models. He applies data as a practical clinical tool to identify risk, guide interventions, and improve long-term results. A central aim of his work has been to strengthen access for underserved populations while maintaining accountability for quality outcomes.

Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, and raised in the Miami area, Dr. Marlow immigrated to the United States in 1993. Growing up, he observed the limitations of a healthcare system marked by unequal access and fragmented delivery. His family experienced these challenges directly, particularly his grandmother, whose complex diabetes required constant monitoring but often received inconsistent attention. At five years old, he promised her that he would become a physician and help her. That early commitment became a defining influence on his life.

As he matured, he recognized that lasting improvement in healthcare required more than individual treatment. He concluded that meaningful progress depended on building systems capable of serving entire communities. To prepare for this responsibility, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from the University of Miami and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from Nova Southeastern University. He completed his medical training at the Cleveland Clinic Florida. He later became a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, a Diplomate of the American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine, and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP). These qualifications reflect his commitment to both clinical excellence and organizational leadership.

With combined training in DO, MPH, and MBA programs, Marlow Hernandez founded Cano Health to deliver coordinated, value-based care. What began as a single clinic grew into a nationally recognized, $3 billion revenue clinical platform serving 400,000 members. Under his leadership, the organization was recognized by Inc. magazine as the fastest-growing primary care network in the U.S. for two consecutive years. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it achieved a 60% sustained reduction in patient mortality.

These results were validated in peer-reviewed research published in the American Journal of Managed Care (AJMC). The organization also maintained a Five-Star quality rating for 5 straight years, as reported by major health organizations, including Humana and United Healthcare. In addition, his teams launched a business initiative under the inaugural CMS direct contracting entity, now called ACO REACH, increasing revenue from $0 to nearly $1.0 billion within two years. These achievements reflected a focus on aligning quality care with financial sustainability.

In 2023, he chose to leave the company after determining that he could no longer effectively serve patients within that corporate environment. Broader disruptions across the healthcare sector in 2024, including challenges faced by CareMax, Clinical Care, and Miami Beach Medical, highlighted systemic pressures within the industry. Following his departure, Cano Health reorganized as a private entity in June 2024 and continues operating as a primary care provider in Florida.

After this transition, Hernandez concentrated on advancing the intersection of clinical medicine and predictive technology. He co-founded Soran Health and currently serves as its Chief Executive Officer. The organization operates under the message “El cuidado que su familia merece” (The care your family deserves). It provides senior-focused healthcare in Nevada, including locations on Tropicana Ave in Las Vegas and in North Las Vegas.

At Soran Health, he implemented the 48-Hour Guarantee, ensuring that no patient waits more than 48 hours for medical care. A major development within this organization is Alma AI, a proprietary platform designed to predict a patient’s risk of 30-day hospitalization with over 90% accuracy in empirical testing. Recognizing that more than 60% of significant healthcare events occur between scheduled physician visits, the organization uses continuous data monitoring to identify risk early. This approach allows timely outreach and intervention before conditions escalate into emergencies.

Alongside his executive responsibilities, he remains active in clinical practice as a vascular specialist. He holds active and unrestricted medical licenses in Florida and Nevada. He maintains that effective healthcare leadership must remain grounded in direct patient care. During consultations, he often asks patients what they would like to accomplish in the next six months that their health currently prevents them from doing. This question reflects his belief that medicine should help individuals return to meaningful daily activities.

Dr. Marlow refers to senior patients as “Heroes,” recognizing their lifelong contributions to their communities. Throughout his career, he has provided charitable care to uninsured and indigent individuals, sometimes personally bearing financial burdens to ensure that costs do not block access to treatment. His commitment to service has extended to public emergencies, including domestic hurricane relief efforts and personally caring for patients during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Outside of clinical and executive roles, he has maintained consistent involvement in faith-based and community initiatives. For more than 20 years, he has supported local churches, the Christian Children’s Fund, and charitable organizations that provide school feeding programs. He has spoken publicly against oppressive regimes, including the one in Cuba, and has supported efforts such as Blue Square Alliance Against Hate in opposing antisemitism.

Dr. Marlow Hernandez is a founding member of the Board of Trustees of the Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM), where he mentors future physicians and supports the graduation of hundreds of doctors each year. He has authored more than a dozen scientific articles and contributed to more than 60 medical conferences.
