1928 GAH
New York Times VANDALIA, Ohio, Aug. 20, 1928 (AP). Steve Crothers, Chestnut Hills, Pa., returned to the scene of his 1926 trapshooting triumph today when he entered the class championship events of the twenty-ninth grand American handicap tournament and captured first place in Class AA with a tally of 198. Crothers's score was the best turned in by any of the winners in the six events on the first day's program.
krieghoff rapid fire
My buddy has a krieghoff k 80 that sometimes will fire the second shot on it's own, he claims it's from not sholdering the weapon tight to his body I have witnessed the gun doing this several times, is this correct or is there a mechanical issue?

American Single Barrel Trap Production
We've had several neat threads regarding vintage American single barrel traps. Here is the production data for comparison. There were utility grade single barrels labeled 'Trap' (Davenport and others), and a few small makers like Stannard & Moran.

Most hits without a miss?
Does this count? E.D. Fulford defeated Capt. Jack Brewer “Champion Wing Shot of the World” and “The Best Shot on Live Birds the World Has Ever Known” when they shot three, 100 bird matches at Al Heritage's grounds, Marion, New Jersey in November, 1891 for $3000 a side. Fulford killed 204 birds straight during the event. Fulford won the rematch January, 1892 at Woodland Park, Long Island for $1,000 a side, killing 100 birds straight to Brewer’s 99.
An answer for the "yips" from video gamers
Gamers began describing focal dystonia more than 10 years ago; some have called it "gamer's yips".Gamers have found that by inverting the controls, similar to flight simulators, the gamer is faster. No mention of curing the "yips" but it might be a hint as to how release triggers workAnd there is no recoil using the controlsBTW: There are now Sports Psychologists for gamers
Task Specific Focal Dystonia, aka The Yips
I am suffering from a debilitating form of Task Specific Focal Dystonia, aka The Yips. It has essentially destroyed my enjoyment of trapshooting. I've struggled with it for the last few years, can't seem to overcome it. A more detailed explanation seems to define the problem pretty well. In sports, "the yips" refers to a sudden and often inexplicable loss of athletic skills, particularly in performing a specific action.

The Shake or is it a flinch
Saturday in moderate wind I shot 4 rounds of handicap and below average, about 20 average per round, under my recent handicap practice average of 22-23. A couple of birds got away in the wind however I had at least 6 instances of the yips, where I shook the gun, pulling the barrel left or down, at time of fire, frequently on left crossers that I failed to acquire and shoot in a timely manner.
Women’s Olympic Skeet Bronze Medal for Smith
Smith and Corovetto got targets taken away as well. Smiths would have put her in the gold medal match, Corovettos was canceled out by Ambers. The appeals process seems to be a joke, "Lost, I hit that, no you didn't", end of story. Apparently they (assuming ISSF) have a VAR system, but decided not to bring it to Paris. I believe the team coaches used to have protest abilities, since they didn't it must have been removed.
An old gun can still get it done!
Just wanted to take a little time to make a post showing that an old gun can still get the job done at a trap shoot. For context, I shoot a Winchester Model 12 (circa 1937 production year) for just about everything on the trap line, even doubles. I’ve shot my best scores with this gun because it fits me perfectly and I’m confident that it will always be capable of breaking a target.

April Wilkerson's Clay Target Deck
This has been around for awhile but I don't recall a thread here. With a wobble machine it would be a blast. I'm not so sure her shot fall zone is safe, but it is Texas I have no connection to Ms. Wilkerson (and someone needs to give her some tips on mount) or the products being promoted
do you eat before or after shooting ?
I only eat after shooting is done for the day. Your not alone. Your body is going to use a percentage of its stored energy to digest your food. Energy that you will not be able to use for shooting. I always used to eat a light lunch when I had to go back and shoot another 100 in the afternoon. Then I ate a nice dinner at the end of the day. To each their own though. break em all Jeff

A guess at shot cone angles in degrees for the various of nominal chokes
#1 · Initial Presumptions (and I do mean presumptions): ---------------------------------------------------- 1) Nominal 12 Gauge bore = 0.729" 2) Nominal wad separation begins to occur @ ~2.5 feet from muzzle 3) Shot patterns diameter is still ~0.729" @ ~2.5 feet from muzzle 4) 100% of pattern in a 45" circle ~= 70% of pattern in a 30" circle 5) Sine of angle of shot cone is close enough for government work 6) shot travels in a straight line after initial disturbance determines its flight...
"Why can't I break a hundred?" by Dick Miller

What is Alloy Steel in regard to a receiver material
#1 · Was ready to buy a Tristar TT-15 Mono Trap and after not seeing the receiver block material I called the company and they informed me the receiver was made from alloy steel . Is this a pot metal or aluminum mix to cheapen the production cost ? Would you not want an all high grade steel for some added weight and good wear properties in a trap gun where thousands of rounds will be fired every year . I have heard of an aluminum receiver in a field/hunting shotgun before for lighter carrying .

Roger Moore's Flinch
Moore related that while taking a refresher training course in the army, he was handed a weapon that had a blocked breach, and when he fired it, it exploded in his hand. This left him deafened for a few days and gave him a lifelong fear that every time he shot a weapon, it might malfunction in the same way.

Flinching Poll - If Trapshooting Is Your Primary Discipline
For the purpose of this poll, please restrict your responses to this definition of a "flinch": The Task-specific Focal Dystonia that we call a “flinch” is a 2 part event (though occurring almost instantaneously) 1st is the “trigger freeze” ie. an inability to contract the trigger finger, followed by 2nd a variety of bodily reactions involving large muscles; lunging, jerking, stumbling toward the trap house, etc.
