Dr. Fernando Barrese’s Biography
Dr. Fernando Barrese, a licensed chiropractor with over 20 years of experience, is the founder of ICC Medical Group, LLC, located in New Jersey. His practice serves patients who have sustained injuries from auto accidents, sports incidents, work-related injuries, and slip-and-fall accidents. ICC Medical Group has four established locations in the North New Jersey area, making specialized care widely accessible to those in need.
Dr. Barrese’s practice is structured around a comprehensive healthcare model. At ICC Medical Group, services are offered under one roof to ensure a cohesive treatment experience. These include chiropractic care, physical therapy, orthopedic care, physiatry, and pain management. The approach taken by Dr. Fernando Barrese and his team emphasizes treating the entire individual, not just isolated symptoms. This integrated method allows the ICC team to offer consistent care to those managing chronic pain, recovering from physical trauma, or working to improve overall health and wellness.
The professional team at ICC includes chiropractors, physical therapists, orthopedic specialists, physiatrists, and pain management professionals. Each member brings extensive training and experience, working together to deliver high-standard patient care. Dr. Barrese, along with the ICC team, actively participates in ongoing training and knowledge development to remain current with medical practices. Part of Dr. Barrese’s responsibilities includes evaluating treatment plans created by other licensed providers, ensuring that they meet necessary medical standards and are appropriate for each patient’s condition.
Within his chiropractic care services, Dr. Barrese focuses on helping patients manage pain, increase mobility, and restore physical function. His techniques are non-invasive, with a focus on spinal health and alignment. These methods are designed to support the body’s natural healing processes while minimizing the need for medications or surgical interventions.
Among the treatment options Dr. Barrese uses is the flexion-distraction technique, which involves a specially designed table that stretches and decompresses the spine. This method is effective in addressing herniated discs, sciatica, and lower back pain. Another technique, the Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT), is a low-force method that concentrates on the relationship between the sacrum and the occiput. Dr. Barrese also applies trigger point therapy to reduce muscle tension and support movement. In addition to these hands-on techniques, he provides rehabilitation exercises and physical therapy tailored to each patient’s specific needs for improved strength, flexibility, and recovery.
Dr. Barrese treats a variety of conditions. These include lower neck and upper back pain, pain caused by herniated discs, and sciatica. He addresses neck pain resulting from whiplash, muscle strain, and posture-related issues. Patients also seek his help for tension headaches and migraines that are associated with spinal problems. He provides care for shoulder injuries such as rotator cuff damage, frozen shoulder, and shoulder impingement. In addition, he treats joint pain in the knees, hips, elbows, and other areas affected by injury or arthritis. His goal with each patient is to reduce pain, improve flexibility and mobility, and enhance their ability to perform daily tasks without the use of drugs.
One patient shared their experience, noting that after years of living with chronic back pain, the care they received at ICC Medical Group gave them long-awaited relief and allowed them to enjoy their daily activities again.
Before establishing ICC Medical Group, Dr. Barrese owned and managed several other chiropractic clinics. These included Wallington Chiropractic Center, Chiropractic Center of Jersey City, Chiropractic Center of Newark, and Chiropractic Center of Elisabeth, the latter being the first location where he began practicing. At each facility, he performed physical evaluations, ordered and analyzed diagnostic tests, created treatment plans, and managed the overall progress of his patients. He also prepared detailed reports and letters to support insurance claims and requests for treatment approval.
Dr. Fernando Barrese pursued an academic background that began at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, where he studied engineering. He later attended Rutgers University in Newark from 1992 to 1996, where he majored in biology. He completed his Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Life University in Marietta, Georgia. He also trained in the Cox Distraction Technique at the National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Illinois, a method used to relieve spinal pain through gentle spinal decompression.
